I seem to recall the same stuff being said last year with the release of the iPhone 4S - right before Apple posted record iPhone sales.

Some Apple people will buy it no matter what. They love the ecosystem. It works for them. Some Apple fans like myself want to try something different. It happens. I'm sure they will have record sales again. Good for Apple!! Love my Macs!!

My iPhone 4 (on Straight Talk) is just fine.
If I score a (broken) 4S, that would be fine.
My 3G throughput is higher than my DSL at home, so I don't need LTE.
Can't afford one of everything, so I'm currently looking at 7-10" tablets in the $100-300 range.
Could tether that to existing iPhone.
So, I guess I'm happy. -

I am not loyal to any company for any product. Motorola could make the iPhone and I would still feel the same.
I really wish I could find a bunch of positive things to say.. Only one I can find is the marketing they have. Hands down the best... But they have slid down a bit in some of their commercials.

As far as NFC goes, if Apple did add it it wouldn't surprise me if you could use you phone to pay for things using your iBucks, which could be purchased itunes credits or maybe Apple would start its own credit card.

I heard on TWIT today that those who were there were not impressed with the specs and with what was announced but after they got into the demo room and got their hands on them they were hooked and said after playing with the 5 reaching in their pocket and grabbing the 4S was like grabbing something fat and bloated and they all wanted a 5.
I will probably order a 5 on Friday but its not because I am impressed with what was announced today its more that I am a I got to have the latest and greatest kind of guy.

Purchase most of my things on the Internet too but I do go to gas stations, fast food, vending machines, drug stores, etc that it works on.
There is a paypass app that has the locations but I find Mastercard doesn't update it enough as I have found several places that have it that aren't on the map. I'm not really in a big metro area either. Nothing like a Chicago or Dallas type area. Found it very convenient to just use my phone instead of pulling out my card. Wish everyone had it as sometimes I look at my bill and can't remember what that store was..

I could see that. After using a 4.2 inch screen for 2 years then moving up to a 4.7 for a few weeks. No way could I go back. Then I had to help someone with the phone I sold them and that 4.2 just felt weird. But not as near as weird when my coworker hands me his iphone4s to show me a picture. That little screen gives me the feeling of Doc Brown is about to come around the corner.

Another thing you are forgetting is NFC is more than just purchases. The tags are very cool as well, program them to change different settings (put one for the car to crank up volume, put one on your desk at work to turn it down, etc), program with your home wifi password so guests just tap it without you having to give them the password.
A few of them had it in them since release and it was not acknowledged or turned on until much later after the product was out.
I was in Radio Shack yesterday and they had a RFID reader kit for $40. (yeah I know RFID and NFC are different things but are closely related)
I'm curious to see if it will support SVDO on the CDMA version. From what I've read, no 800 LTE support, and just average so-so antenna/radio gain. I wasn't really expecting that with everyone talking about their superior antenna design team.

Hardware, now is meh, with the exception of the camera which (imo) takes better pics than any Android phone I've used. This was true of the 4/4s and i don't think the new one will be a step down either.
Can't wait to compare this with the galaxy note 2 when it's available.
My wife is upgrading in January, so she'll probably give her iphone4 to her mother.

I'll be upgrading my 3GS to the 5, not because I need the latest and greatest, but simply because my 3GS is on its last legs and it is time to put her down.
I can care less about LTE or the A6 or the size of the camera. I just need to JB it eventually and use it for everything I currently use my 3GS for.

To me, it looks like a great upgrade for me. Will pre-order it on Friday. My son is excited as it means he will get my 4S. Indeed, he is very excited. Of course, I am using his phone's contract upgrade. 
But until he pays 1/3 of the monthly bill, those upgrades are mine, and he gets sloppy seconds.

It is an upgrade for sure. I doubt you will see many HUGE upgrades from any os or manufacturer in the near term over what is available now, so I won't criticize on that.

Today was the day; the day that I have been waiting for since May. You see, in May my Evo contract with Sprint was finished and after a quick scan of the market, I decided to hold off on a new phone. When I got word that the iPhone 5 would be out in September, I was sold and planned on leaving the world of Android and heading over to the rainbow-tastic Apple. Then today came, and what did I find out? Apple was releasing a 2 year old phone with a slightly larger screen! Really Apple??? You spent months hyping the iPhone 5 and being the innovators these last couple of years and this is your big announcement??? Uggggghhhh!!!! Well, what's a few more months now? Looks like I will stay with Droids and purchase a Galaxy Note 2.
I have heard the camera is pretty good..curious to see the comparison. Amazing what they can't fit in phones these days. I was shocked with the quality of pictures from both the EVO LTE and Galaxy S3 during a recent trip to some underground caverns with very low lighting. I was kicking myself for not bringing my good camera at first.

I give you a month, or even a week or two, once you see it, the phone whore in you will start to get the itch... And from then, its a matter of time.
