I seem to recall the same stuff being said last year with the release of the iPhone 4S - right before Apple posted record iPhone sales.

While I Agree with most of what you say it just seems like it's coming from someone who hates apple.
I have never seen anything positive from you about them.
Gobucks said:Some Apple people will buy it no matter what. They love the ecosystem. It works for them. Some Apple fans like myself want to try something different. It happens. I'm sure they will have record sales again. Good for Apple!! Love my Macs!!
Digi,
Can you speak to how widespread you've found NFC to be? I haven't noticed it around here (but I haven't been looking and I do most of my purchasing via the Internet).

As far as NFC goes, if Apple did add it it wouldn't surprise me if you could use you phone to pay for things using your iBucks, which could be purchased itunes credits or maybe Apple would start its own credit card.
Around here in CT many stores and restaurants are NFC equipped and I was hoping to see the iPhone be able to use them.
When the iPhone 4S I wasn't excited about it and considered it a disapointment. But I ordered one anyways and once I got it I was was very happy I ordered one and couldn't go back to a iPhone 4.
I heard on TWIT today that those who were there were not impressed with the specs and with what was announced but after they got into the demo room and got their hands on them they were hooked and said after playing with the 5 reaching in their pocket and grabbing the 4S was like grabbing something fat and bloated and they all wanted a 5.
I will probably order a 5 on Friday but its not because I am impressed with what was announced today its more that I am a I got to have the latest and greatest kind of guy.

A few of them had it in them since release and it was not acknowledged or turned on until much later after the product was out.nfc roughly 2 years ago? With absolute certainty, Nexus S. The original Nexus 1 may have had it. Im sure there were others, but I haven't done an exhaustive search.

I would say that for ease of use ios is very high, and integration is the same.
Hardware, now is meh, with the exception of the camera which (imo) takes better pics than any Android phone I've used. This was true of the 4/4s and i don't think the new one will be a step down either.
Can't wait to compare this with the galaxy note 2 when it's available.
My wife is upgrading in January, so she'll probably give her iphone4 to her mother.

It is an upgrade for sure. I doubt you will see many HUGE upgrades from any os or manufacturer in the near term over what is available now, so I won't criticize on that.
. I loved my iPhone 4s, but after moving to an even larger screen with android, even with my appreciation of the ease of use of ios, I don't see much that would make me go back on this newest edition.
That said, if I were coming from a previous edition of the iphone though, I'd upgrade Friday in a heartbeat.
