Any one not getting the Weigel channels?

Me either and especially for locations like mine that is shielded by terrain in all directions preventing OTA from happening. One would think that the more readily the programming is to access the better their sponsors would like it. I know it's left me with just PBS I can watch now There are several stations carrying most of these channels fairly close to here but according to the plots I ran I'd need a tower of 200 feet or more to touch them. If I had internet at my radio site above me I can get 28 channels there no sweat that would be the answer but it's just far enough off the beaten path to get anything.

You have to understand how corporations think. If they're missing out on one, thin, dimes worth of revenue, they'll spend a thousand bucks to prevent a 10 cent loss.

It doesn't matter than people like us would be willing to pay a modest subscription cost, which wouldn't cost them anything since we provide our own equipment.

I see STB's online all the time with card slots, that could be used for that purpose. Instead, they are unwilling to sell home subscriptions, which wouldn't create a great degree of hassle for them.

I read a post the other day some guy in Canada posted, claiming the receiver he's using (He Didn't Mention The Manufacturer) remedied the problem with the MeTV channels simply by activating the WiFi feature in the receiver.

If that's the case, apparently BISS Key isn't as secure as one would think. I don't know if he was on the up and up or not, because I don't quite understand how hooking it to a Wifi would fix it.

Anyway, I rarely turn my dish on anymore, considering all the free streaming channels available. I also have over 450 DVD's I bought over the years with my favorite shows on them.

I'm seriously considering removing all 8+ dishes next summer since we recently got fiber internet. With half a Gig internet, I'm able to watch anything I want, including UHD channels with speed to burn.

Yep... Automatic Key Sharing, enabled in some of these receivers, by default. Connect to WiFi and the keys are downloaded from an offshore server.... Some of these guys aren't even aware that it is TOS.

This may be true but there's not much reason to enable/configure their wifi capability except for this reason. So simply don't activate its wifi. The op has control. Other features such as blind scan, both speed & sensitivity, can be excellent.

Not my point. Simply responding to the "shady" comment. Many reasons to connect to a network: device streaming, storage updating, apps, etc. Not saying anything about the STB performance. Yes, the "feature" can be disabled, but the STBs are typically shipped with key auto roll active by default.

I assume that you recall several SatelliteGuys members in tbe past mistakenly reported in "What's Up There", services that they thought to be open key or Free To Air. Nope, the decryption keys were automatically loaded (unknown to the op) and channels were playing. All they had done was connect their new STB to the Internet.

A while back, I discovered that if internet was configured on an older Chinese box it would 'call home' periodically. So I disabled the internet... and it would turn itself back on using the settings in the configuration!

The only fix I found was to do a fresh install and NEVER fill in the connection settings.

Maybe newer boxes are different... but I wouldn't bet on it.

I really NEVER thought they would encrypt the Weigel channels. With them being digi-nets, i didn't see any reason as to why they would encrypt?!?!!?

I was just re-reading this thread and a dawned on me. I haven't done an OTA channel scan on my TV's in a long time. It turns out that I get all the Weigel stations OTA in my market. That said, I really don't use my C-Band dish anymore.

I told my wife that I'm considering getting rid of my C-Band dish. She was elated. Then I said I'll replace it with a 1.2 meter offset Ku Prodelen I have eye on. The glazed eyes and look of disgust returned to her face shortly after.

I don't know why people think a satellite dish is ugly. I think they look cool.
