Any new hd channel additions coming soon?

I think they have a good balance now, just dont make it worse. Start talking about removing channels people will go nutty.

I wouldnt mind some of the useless HD channels like MTV getting booted...

I was being sarcastic because earlier in this thread people were basically saying they didn't want anymore hd.

I agree about MTV though. There is literally nothing on that channel I would want to watch and the few times someone has turned it on in my house it was window boxed anyways even for current shows.

I was thinking you were.

Im pretty happy with Directv's HD, it could be better though. Comparing whats out there, its very nice and Id prefer them to stay at their current load per TP. Do not add anymore channels at the expense of PQ IMO. If they are out of room, just dont add channels till the next sats launch. Id love to see em get enough space to go from 5 to 4 channels per TP.

IIRC, there is room for 10-15 channels (cant remember exact number) at their current loads of 5 or so channels per TP. So, as stated previously, they just have to be strategic about what to add.

For me, BBCAHD is te only channel Im missing, but I know others have other wants.

I don't have many either . DIY,BBCA,HLN and I may be missing one more.

HLN would be nice, but I rarely watch it anymore.

The only SD I would record at this point is BBCA, but I just buy the episodes of Being Human, Dr Who, etc... on Amazon in HD and watch on Roku.

Totally agree! Doubt we will ever see it drop from 5 to 4, as most people think it is excellent now. I think it is borderline good.

It won't improve unless that drives sales. And since Dish is able to successfully sell an inferior product, D* is under no pressure to improve quality. I'm sure D* would increase from 5 to 6 if they could pull it off technically.

It would be great if they could stop transmitting all or nearly all SD channels, then use that bandwidth for HD. Letting the receivers convert the HD signal to SD. But they have something like 15-20 million or so SD only receivers out there.

I hope that I am proven wrong, but I would not be at all suprised if Disney Junior is the new HD. It launches on Mar 23 to replace SoapNet on providers that have came to an agreement with Disney. It would be just another waste of space. I highly doubt that the 3-5 yr old crowd really cares if the cartoon or program that they are watching is in HD or not.

I think it depends more on screen size. On 58-65", hasnt been hard for me to form an opinion Directv looks better overall. Id not use way behind, but I think a lot of times when its stated there is not difference, its folks watching a 50" or less from 10ft away.

I record the same shows year after year on channels like Discovvery, TLC, History and Nat Geo, and they look better on Directv on my 64". Also, PQ is so subjective, but to me, Im very picky.

Im one of the first ones to bitch about the HBO pulse on Directv, when everyone else was saying it wasnt happening. Then over time more people noticed it, and now its fixed.

Ive also been claiming over the last two years, Panasonic plasmas have gotten worse on IR, and thats just not coming to be accepted by many. I think a lot of people look the other way, and then a lot of people dont know what they are looking at.

One thing I did was keep my DishNetwork receiver on my 60 inch LCD for a day after my DirecTV install. My recliner sits fairly close to the screen for it's size, about 4-5 foot. I could tell every time I switch back and forth which one was Dish and which one was DirecTV. I could tell by looking at curved lines. Like from someones shoulder to their arm. Dish just had more a jaggyness to it, kinda stair step effect, but kinda hard to pick out. When there was fast motion it was very easy to tell which provider I was on. I tried this on a few different channels to see if it was just one channel. Some were worse than others but for the most part it was the same. When I did more comparison from my couch all the way across the room, it really couldn't tell that much except for really fast motion scenes.

Thats what ive seen too. Details are a little more sharp at times on Directv.

It could be possible to do so if they can find the right mix of higher bandwidth channels (like ESPN) and lower bandwidth channels (like history channel) per transponder.

it is a possibility. but from reading satellite racer's most cryptic message, it sounds like the full-time channel will launch before disney jr. just my 3 cents worth.

Tis true, I mean had made it sound sooooooooooooon ;)

My money is on Tru, which isn't really what I want, but I know a lot of folks do.
