Cartoon Network has signed a major deal with Mike Young Productions for 26 half hours of its brand new 3D, CGI character-comedy, Pet Alien.
Set to debut across nine key territories including the UK, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain and Sweden in 2005, Pet Alien is a slapstick comedy full of physical gags in the style of Tex Avery aimed at 6 to 11 year olds.
“Pet Alien is the kind of skewed, off-beat character comedy that makes for strong Cartoon Network Europe programming,” says Finn Arnesen, senior vice president, original animation and acquisitions for Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Toonami and Turner Entertainment International. “We were drawn to its high-energy, non-stop fun and our millions of viewers are going to love it. All the visual gags and slapstick humour will translate extremely well across all territories.”
Pet Alien is produced by Mike Young Productions and distributed by its newly formed subsidiary, Taffy Entertainment, which handled the Cartoon Network Europe deal. MYP’s co-producers include Antefilm/TF1 France; Crest, India; and Telegael, Ireland. The series is based on a property created by Jeff Muncy of John Doze Studios.
