AL East 2010

At the risk of sounding like a uber-homer, if they gave out Manager of the Year at the end of June (which obviously they don't :D) my vote goes to Terry Francona!! :up

I don't care what their payroll is, the amount of injuries to key players that Tito has had to navigate through is mind-boggling!!

Victor Martinez officially placed on the 15 day DL. V-Mart joins Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell and Jeremy Hermida on the DL.

Also keep in mind, Dice-K and Mike Cameron (STILL hurting) just recently came off the DL, and J.D. Drew and Kevin Youkilis are currently nursing nagging injuries..............

So your like the old Tigers when the brought up the AAA team !

Pretty much :D

I do have to say that the bench has performed admirably. The Sox have started ten, YES 10, different outfielders and it's only June 29!

When Bill described the Red Sox season as an EPIC FAIL in mid-May, they were 19-20.

Since then, they won 27 of their last 38 games (a .710 pace) and have been a rampaging offensive juggernaut (especially Big Papi, who has turned back the clock in a good way).

I guess that must have been the kick in the butt they needed.

(P.S. Good to see you back on here. We missed you the past couple of weeks here.)

You had to remind me that I said that!  :D

That must have been when they were swept in Baltimore. Anyway, as disgusted as I was then, I am proud of this team now.

I still don't think they'll win the World Series (ironically enough, the strength of the team last season- the bullpen- is IMO, the weakness now), but they've shown a lot of heart the last six weeks or so with all the injuries.

Thanks buddy, I appreciate that! :)

As I was telling Salsa in a PM, I was having some family medical issues the last couple of weeks, but things are look much brighter now! :up

NOW Jason Varitek and Manny Delcarmen go on the DL!

So now the Sox are without BOTH their catchers............Victor Martinez and Varitek.

Heck, the Sox can now (non) field an all-DL team!

SP- Josh Beckett
RP- Manny Delcarmen
C- Jason Varitek
1B- Victor Martinez
2B- Dustin Pedroia
SS- Jed Lowrie
3B- Mike Lowell
OF- Jacoby Ellsbury
OF- Jeremy Hermida
OF- Mike Cameron (ok, he's not currently on the DL, but he's been on there twice and is still banged up)

That's a pretty decent Major League roster!

So, who was the catcher that caught the Knuckleball that they kept letting go ?
Marrabelli ?
Are they calling him back,is he retired yet ?

Do they have a catcher for tonight's game ?

The Sox reacquired Kevin Cash from the Astros yesterday.

Cash was the Red Sox backup catcher in '07 and '08. He coincidentally replaced Mirabelli (as Wakefield's caddy/backup catcher) in '07.

The other catcher on the roster is Gustavo Molina. Cash is catching Wakefield tonight.

Not only is V-Mart and Tek out, but the Sox top two minor league catchers are also out hurt.

If Papelbon had blown the save tonight, I would have taken up a collection to buy the team just so I could cut Papelbon.

Wakefield became the all-time leader in games started in Fenway Aprk tonight, and is now just 14 wins behind Roger Clemens and Cy Young for the all-time team lead. Go, Wakefield!

Unfortunately, that will take Wake another 2-3 years to reach.

...unless the arms of half the starting pitchers fall off. That's the downside of being a Tim Wakefield fan. He only gets to start when the team is in deep doo-doo.

That's why Wakefield has been invaluable over the last few years. No matter how strong the staff looks in ST, there are always parts of the season when 1/2 the starters are on the DL...

The guy's earned run average in save situations is over 5. Almost no one swings and misses when he pitches. He lets in too many inherited runners. He is a blown save waiting to happen

A day after Clay Buchholz became the 11th player on the CURRENT Red Sox disabled list, Kevin Youkilis left tonight's game with an undisclosed foot/leg injury.

Some guy named Romero is now playing first base!

WTF is going on with all these Red Sox injuries??!!

FWIW, Andy Pettitte replaced Buchholz on the all-star roster.

In the field right now for the Red Sox:

1B- Niuman Romero
2B- Bill Hall
SS- Marco Scutaro
3B- Adrian Beltre
LF-Daniel Nava
CF- Eric Patterson
RF- J.D. Drew
C- Kevin Cash

On the bench:

Darnell McDonald, Mike Cameron, Gustavo Molina

Of the above, ONLY J.D. Drew was on the roster last year.
