AL East 2010

And Ortiz, named AL Player of the Month of May, homered again and is now slugging .599, which would put him in sixth place in the AL if he had enough at bats to qualify for that lead. Ortiz's slugging average through April was .286, but he hiked it up to .599 in just 33 calendar days during which he sat out four games because he was still being platooned, missed another because of the NL DH problem, and only pinch hit in yet another NL game. Amazing. I am tempted to start a pool picking which dates Ortiz takes over the AL lead in major offensive statistical categories.
Another sign of respect: Ortiz finally received his first intentional walk of the season last night....

So far this year, looks like we can add a twist to an old quote:

"The majority of American males put themselves to sleep by striking out the batting order of the Toronto Blue Jays."

It was good to see V-Mart back in the stadium where he belongs. A class act that Victor was. Gosh I miss him. :(

More on Vic...

Vic The Stik was a class act, meeting with many of his friends before the game and discussing his love for the Cleveland.

“I didn’t leave this city because I wanted to. This city was great for me and my family,” he said.

We didn’t want you to leave either, Vic. :(

Looks like the details depend on who he talks to:

“There’s no doubt about it,’’ Martinez said, before last night’s game. “I left this place that I always am going to have in my heart. I left the place that saw me growing up as a player, as a person. I really can’t say thanks enough. They sent me to one of the greatest teams in baseball, to the Red Sox, to a contender team that is always in the race, always has a chance to win a World Series. I’m really, really happy to be here.’’

As of this moment, the Red Sox are 10 for 13, for a batting average of .769, against the Phillies. I think the remainder of the game should be called off.

I haven't seen this confirmed in print, so it may be just BS, but supposedly, one of his minor league coaches was one of the handful of players who hit a home run on the first pitch thrown to him in the majpors, and has told Nava and everyone else he coached that when they gets to the bigs, they should try to hit the first pitch thrown to them out of the park, because it will be the only chance they'll ever have to do that.

Strange things happen all the time.

Lets hope they don't make him to be the hitting version of Strasburg, I can only handle one majorly over hyped situation at a time ..

Lost in the Strasburg talk was the Carlos Santana* (the other Carlos Santana) debut. (*see avatar)

In the two games Santana has started, the prized Cleveland prospect was 3 for 8 with 3 RBI, 1 HR and 0 strikeouts. He was also credited as the first batter that Strasburg gave up a walk to.

Boston 41 28 .594 1 24-15 17-13 7-3

These are presently the three best won-lost records in all of baseball. One of these teams is going to win a lot of games but not make the playoffs.

That seems to happen a lot over there.

This appears to be Boston's chance as they are on a roll, won 4 straight while both TB and NY have been losing.

Ortiz, who had gone 3 for 33 immediately after winning the Player of the Month award for May, has since gone 12 for 25 (.480) with four homers and ten RBI in the most recent seven games. Even when he was going 3 for 33, he didn't look that bad at the plate.
