AL EAST 2009

For the Sox fans here: What do you think about the job Dennis Eckersley is doing in his backup stint in the booth?? I think he is too much of a homer and needs to polish his skills a little more.
I prefer the fact that Remy is less of a Homer, but I prefer Ecks style.

The Yankees-Rangers game I went to today was awful. The Rangers should have had a promotion to let some fan come in and pitch to the Yankees because the guys they had did not get it done. And someone should test A-Rod for steroids again because he already admitted he juiced when in Texas. Well A-Rod was back in Texas and he went 5-5. :D

I didn't know you took a trip down to the Lone Star State.

FYI

When Eck pitched his no-hitter, Jerry Remy was in the on-deck circle in the bottom of the ninth. With the count on the first batter 0 and 2, Eckersley saw Remy looking his way and pointed at him and yelled, "Your next, a$$hole!". Both Remy and Eckersley have confirmed that story.

I've heard conflicting accounts of what happened during the last at bat. Eckersley was giving a load of crap to the final batter, who kept stepping out of the box, and according to Eckersley, he just yelled to him that the crowd wanted to get this over with, but an unconfirmed version I once heard was that the umpire stepped out from behind the plate to warn Eckersley, who seemed about ready to melt down, and according to that version, Eckersley yelled back at him, "Hey fatso, get back behind the plate. Do you think these people are all cheering for you?"

Since you're a NC guy living in Texas, do you think you'll be able to attend the Panthers/Cowboys Monday Night Football game?
Don't know about that yet. FYI The Cowboys Stadium is nearly done and looks awesome. It's right next to the Rangers Ballpark. The game I really want to see is when Roy Williams brings the National Champion Tar Heels out here to play Texas. They're supposed to play in the Cowboys Stadium this Dec.

LMAO!! That's Eck! :D

Okay, NOW we're talkin'! :up

They were speculating on 'EEI this morning that a simple Papi-Drew switch would make the most sense (leave Youk, Bay and Lowell alone).

As far as Youk playing 3B for the second straight game, I just think Tito is being rightfully cautious with Lowell on the turf. The Sox play seven straight on the fake stuff this week.

John Smoltz to start for Sox on June 16th?

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/05/27/patient_progress_for_smoltz/

If Smoltz continues on this course, it will be very interesting to see who gets dropped from the rotation (barring injuries or a trade).

Josh Beckett is obviously a lock to stay in the rotation.

Jon Lester isn't the lock that he once was, but IMO, he would really have to hit rock bottom to be demoted in three weeks.

Daisuke Matsuzaka is making his second start since coming off the DL tonight, so we'll see about him.

Tim Wakefield has been the Sox best starter through the first quarter of the season.

Brad Penny is 5-1 with an almost 6 ERA, but he has pitched much better of late.

My guess is the Sox are trying to move Penny. We shall see.

This doesn't even count Clay Buchholz or Michael Bowden, both of whom have been lights out down in Pawtucket.

Tonight's lineup:

Ellsbury-CF
Pedroia-2B
Drew-RF
Youkilis-1B
Bay-LF
Ortiz-DH
Lowell-3B
Kottaras-C
Green-SS
Matsuzaka-SP

Papi still sixth, Tek takes the night off with an afternoon game tomorrow....

Jason Bay get the day off today:

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. J.D. Drew, RF
4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
5. Mike Lowell, 3B
6. David Ortiz, DH
7. Jason Varitek, C
8. Jeff Bailey, LF
9. Julio Lugo, SS
-- Josh Beckett, RHP

The home plate umpire has thrown both catchers and both managers out of the Twins-Red Sox game today.
