Aereo Attracts Support From Dish Network, EFF & More For SCOTUS Hearing

Well I did say MOST elderly people, not ALL . I speak from my own family experience where NONE of them can figure out the basic DISH receiver, menus etc, after having the service for over 10 years now. I do all the installs , bill paying , technical support and repairs for my parents and aunt. They are all over 60 years of age. But yes, I doubt that any of them will have a member of staff that can explain to them how it works & even if they do , most of the court to me , seems to only listen to their own opinion anyway.
Well I'm 61 and I am the family IT. I also seem to be IT for friends. Its not a matter of age on understanding technology, its more willingness to learn technology. I've worked on PCs,laptops, etc for age ranges from 12 years old to people in their 60's.

As for the ruling, we unfortunately have a Supreme Court that seems to be ruling more by ideology than Constitutional guidelines/limits. Personally I hope they rule in favor of Aereo.

That's great that you can be the IT guy for your family and friends. I'm 51 ,soon to be 52 in July, and I'm the IT guy for my family. My mother has taken the time to learn how the I pad mini works ,but my Dad and Aunt are totally clueless. Less than a month ago I was in my parent's attic re-running the coax cable that had been up there since the late 70s -because it was all cracked & rotted through. Fixed the lost signal message and black outs on their screen that they have been having for the last few years. I also agree that it is about a willingness to learn technology. I have taken a lot of time to learn about satellite ,installation, anything tv related, but I have no interest in twitter, facebook, or any social apps.

I agree about the supreme court and their ideology. Seems more and more that the majority opinions of the court are trying to undo the last 60 years of supreme court rulings and create chaos in our system. I do hope that they rule in favor of Aereo too ,but I am not expecting it. They do seem to favor Big money and we all know that the networks have a lot of it.

Based on the articles I've read, we'll be lucky if they don't rule that televisions are unconstitutional because they run by magic.

I also thought it was funny they the justices thought it was silly for each customer to record the same thing instead of there just being a master recording. They were like, wouldn't it make more sense to just have one master recording instead of 10,000 recordings of the same thing.
This is the same justices that ruled on Cablevision's cloud DVR service, right ?

I was wondering about this concept as well after I read an article about file-sharing cloud services like Dropbox. If two or more people upload an identical file, Dropbox does not keep every one of those copies. I can't believe that Cablevision or Aereo doesn't do something similar ! We're to believe they will have thousands or tens of thousands of copies of Big Bang Theory on their server farm tonight ?

The Supreme Court never ruled on the Cablevision DVR, they simply did not accept the appeal, so the lower court's opinion stood.

Some cloud services can combine copies of files, others do not. Itunes match for example will use Apple's copy if it matches one of theirs, but if Apple does not have a license for the song in question, it will upload a copy from you and store it just for you.
