Three lines from the dish (or switch), a duo node and 1 3ghz line to each Hopper (so two of those) and a line to any Joeys. Depending how many Joeys you can run them straight from the node (there are 2 client ports) or using a splitter for more than 2. Joey lines can be rg59, but it's recommended that they be rg6 in a 2 Hopper system.

OK. WA, always 3 coax. EA using only two satellites, two coax. EA using all three satellites, like my setup, three coax. Yes, I "see" all three sats, but get nothing from 77.

Yeah I think it's funny that the DirecTV trolls are touting about how they need less cables. I guess when that's the only advantage they have, well, desperate times call for desperate measures!

My options. I appreciate the info.
This would take Super Coax. Make that $uper Coax. Three lines for the three sats. 3GHz for stacking the three signals. I gather from earlier posts that the system doesn't check for the third sat if it "knows" you are only using two. Of course, how many outputs on that two eyed LNB? Remember the ViP211 option that does not run thru a node but is allowed on a Hopper system.
I'm sure they could build it all into a wart on the dish, but you'd still need one coax per Hopper or Joey. Or maybe run the Joey directly to a revised version of the Hopper. Maybe they'd make a separator for splitting two signals/coax out of a single coax from the dish or switch to feed two Hoppers? Still need logic somewhere to pick what signal to send. Lotta possible streams on that single coax, considering each Hopper can have three Independently watching Joeys. Or again, go wireless, even direct from the LNB assembly? I would not want to depend upon a wireless signal from my roof.
Remember, the Hopper has three tuners so each Hopper needs bandwidth for three concurrent incoming signals. Plus backfeeding Joeys. One coax from dish/LNB to how many Hoppers?
I'm impressed they've crammed as much as they have onto RG-6.

I don't think that Dish will be releasing a new switching technology until the ViPs are put out of service. It's probably cheaper/simpler to have 1 LNB for any type of receiver and to use nodes to adapt the older technology to suit the Hopper's needs. Very few people are looking in to three or more Hoppers (in comparison to one or two.)

Thanks. Sure, let me know if you need help. 3HaloODST helped me a bunch and he still is teaching me things about Hoppers and Joeys. If I had my way the less Joeys the better. If you are going to switch, get at least three to four Hoppers. If the Hoppers only had more tuners, but, well you know, that is another story.
Agree however look at it this way :-
We were able to get our Hoppers w/Sling for $199 a piece, I paid for my switches, you did too (I think?) but on the DirecTV side if we wanted 12 (or 13 in DirecTV's case) DVR tuners we would need FOUR HR24s @ $199 a piece PLUS the Genie. So with all this "less cables" business it's "more money." Which is more important? Lol.
Btw I'm backed up with my PMs I'll respond to them tonight on the laptop

Wow, what a complicated system. Was it a big headache when you switched to Directv? It was for me just switching from VIP 722s to Hopper/Joeys. Nice pics of your new home. You did good. I bet you drank bunches of sodas from your soda pop machine figuring out all them there Cat and Coax cables! LOL. I have never seen so many cables in my life.

I was looking into 3 hoppers and 1 joey, But I would go with a 4th hopper, but again really unsure of the cost for either. Upfront cost would be a big deciding factor for me.
But I was going to wait until December anyway, I have an upgrade with Directv, but I may certainly look into my options as well since it will be contract time.
why 3 hoppers 1 joey? thats 9 tuners and 4 rooms why not go with 2 hoppers 2 joeys 6 tuners should be plenty for anyone lol plus joeys are so much easier to conceal
