811 and favorites list issues

I'm a ex VOOMer just joining dish and was given dish 811 receiver.
I scanned my OTAs and went to the favorites and created a new list by
adding from my "All channel" list. Gave a new name to the list and
saved the list. Then I got out of this screen, pressed the channel guide
button a couple of times until I reach the list I created and started
changing channels. It goes thru few channels OK, and then gives
a blank screen and locks up. When I finally got out of this screen,
I find my new favorites list gone. I go into the favorites lists and
find garbage characters appearing as the name of the list I created.
Additionally, the list is empty and it won't allow me to add or save
anything to it or change the name.

I'm new to dish and this receiver and when I called dish they thought
it's a buggy receiver and shipped me a replacement. To my surprise,
the replacement receiver behaved exactly the same. I'm surprised if
noone has experienced this before. Can someone help ? How can I fix
the favorites lists. dish CSRs are clueless.

Thanks

The 811 is notoriously buggy with OTA channels. Just for fun, can you make a favorites list without any OTA channels, and surf with that one?

I had a problem with an OTA channel that scans and locks, but gets the 49% bug. Whenever I tried to tune to that one, the box would die and I'd have to pull the plug to recover.

The workaround may be to find the poor OTA performer, and kick that one out of your favorites list.

My 811 suffers from this too. This is my opinion. They say that the 811 is supposed to be smart and is able to automatically change it's mapping when the station makes changes to the PSIP data. Well, this is hog wash b_ll sh-*. I consider the 811 as mentally challenged but not smart. The lock-ups and corrupted favorites list is getting dam old! Come on E* Get-R-Fixed.

Thanks guys, in my situations I'm unable to do anything with the favorite
lists at all. This is true even after I unplug and plug back in after a wait.
I'm no longer able to create any new lists or save into anything under
"list2" "list3" etc. When I try to save it give me the message
"You're trying to save an empty list" although I have a few channels
checked. Basically I'm stuck. How can I clear the whole thing and
start over ??

I find that mine locks up on OTA if I use the up or down button to change channels, but not if I use the right arrow to pop up the transparent surf bar then change channels.

I had to do a Factory Defaults and a power cord re-boot to get mine back to normal!

boy921: Thanks a lot. It worked ! I did a factory defaults and my missing
favorites list magically re-appeared ! I didn't have to do a reboot.
everything looks good for now. Thanks again.
