722k Won't Start Up

I've seen a few older posts about symptoms such as mine and want to confirm what my options are.

Since yesterday, my 722k seems to be constantly resetting. There would be times when the screen would be blank and other times when it would be working again. Now it is not working at all. It keeps cycling through the dish "Starting Up..." screen every few minutes, goes blank, and then starts up again. There is a green light on the receiver. It has been doing this for the past few hours.

I've tried the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Unplug the receiver for 10 minutes and replug
2. Unplug the receiver from the power strip and plug directly into the outlet
3. Remove and reconnect all the cables in the back of the receiver
4. Remove and reinsert the smart card

None of these options worked and it keeps cycling through the "Starting Up..." screen. I've pulled out the power and will try to reconnect again in the morning. I don't want this cycling continuously all night long.

Tomorrow I'll check outside. We've had some heavy rainfall over the past few days but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it since I cant even get the receiver to fully power on.

Is my receiver dead? It's a new receiver that I only got in February. I have several recordings on my DVR that I really do not want to lose.

Try powering it up with NOTHING hooked up except the video cable to your tv set, and the power cord of course. See if it comes up that way. If it does, hook everything back up one at a time, and see if when you connect something it immediately goes into distress. Perhaps it's not the receiver itself.

Thanks for all the responses.

I tried this and no luck. It did eventually stop cycling but it still is hung up on the "Starting up.." screen. I also tried moving it to another room and connected it to a different TV. It's definitely an issue with the receiver.

Great time to get a hopper.

I'd love to get a Hopper, but I can't justify the equipment charges and additional $12 charges per month. My 2nd TV is an SDTV so it's really not worth it.

Your receiver would need to be replaced. Please send me a private message so we can get your replacement started.

Thanks Chris - I've sent you a PM.

I only get this receiver in March 2015 so I'm pretty bummed that it's already died. I have so many programs saved on my DVR. Is there anyway to salvage them?

There's no way to save your programs if you can't get that receiver to power up. Even swapping the internal drive to another receiver won't work in a case such as this.

Huh? If the HDD is good, why wouldn't cabling it over work long enough to dump to an EHD?

Because installing the drive into a different receiver, forces a format to marry the drive to that receiver. That wipes all recordings.
Really I have recently read posts on this site of people doing this with no problem.

If you do crack it open look for bulged capacitors. Usually the only thing that fails on these receivers other than the HDD.
Also unplug HDD and see if it boots.
If you are willing to remove the cover and open it up that is.

Unfortunately the 722k has not been manufactured in years so unless it was sitting on a shelf for years it is at least 4 years old.
Also out of curiosity what smart card is in there? most 722k's use the embedded G3 card, but because you are a recent install they must of installed a G4 card?

Thanks. A replacement receiver is on its way and I have to then ship back the old one. I'll have a look again in regards to your comments when I'm back at home from work. Because the receiver was recent, I hadn't backed up a single recording since it March so there is a considerable amount of programming on there.

Also, do the lights on the receiver signify anything good (or bad). In all my troubleshooting, I've encountered a few scenarios:
1. I plug the device back in and there are no lights on and there is nothing on the screen.
2. If I click the Reset button after Scenario 1, it goes into the Starting Up screen and has a green light.
3. After Scenario 2, after a few minutes, the light and screen go blank and then it repeats. (ie. cycles continuously)
4. After Scenario 2, it stays on the Starting Up screen with the green light indefinitely.
5. After Scenario 2, it stays on the Starting Up screen and switches to the an orange light for Mode.
6. After Scenario 5, it switches back to the green light.

In each case, I can never get past the Starting Up screen.

Are any of these situations favorable? Is it recommended that I leave it plugged in and hope that it will turn back on? In most cases, it will jump through a few of the scenarios and when I notice that it has been on Scenario 3 for at least 2 hours, I pull the plug.

Losing 119 signal when cascading switches

I repeatedly have to go to HDTV under screen adjustments
