I have a 722 DVR and it will not call out using VOIP - my provider is ACN, the Vonage *99 setting does not work. My voip works great else where and the caller id also works on the 722 does anybody have any suggestions?
You can always use a HomePlug adapter at your router and just let your 722 talk to the router over the power line using its built in homePlug chip. (ie Nothing to install at the 722)
Modems are notoriously bad over VoIP. You're basically going digital -> analog -> digital -> analog -> digital, and even the slightest delay will drop the call.
When a company I worked for went VoIP, we had to keep a hardline for faxes for a similar reason.
HomePlug or running an ethernet cable is your best bet. Running ethernet to my entertainment stand was a great investment -- I now have about 5 devices that plug into a switch in my entertainment cabinet.
