We're 5 year customers who were crutching along on prehistoric equipment. After many frustrating phone calls for possible upgrade (couldn't understand the customer service person or would get conflicting answers) we decided to cancel dishnetwork.

When I called stating we were reluctantly cancelling service, I was transferred to another department (Save The Existing Customer Team?). Kim was very helpful (spoke English well!!!), "let's see what we can do for you". They gave us a free month of the 180 pack (49.99) to offset most the 59.95 install of local channels (I hadn't seen Oprah in 5 years...goodgrief). They also offered 25.00 each if we returned 2 receivers (wasn't required as we purchased them, not free ones). This offset the DVR upgrade fee and we would have no use for the old receivers anyway.

Install took place 3 days later. Old receivers were sent back in boxes dishnetwork provided. I tracked them. Saw they were signed for. Received credit for one and then 3 days later saw the credit applied for the other (even though they were signed for 3 minutes apart).

Dishnetwork did apply the 49.99 free month adjustment. They held true to their end of the deal. We're happy!!! Most the fees were offset with the free adjustment and the 2 receiver credits. We ended up paying a small portion (9.95) of the local channel install (plus some local tax? 5.95). I'm sure I could have argued that fee off with some sort of adjustment but I was happy to now get local channels and DVR upgrade.

Glad I made the call to cancel. Glad we're still with dishnetwork!!!

Congratulations . It is nice to see them offer some retentions deals rather than the standard ; "IF you ever come back it will be $25.00 to reconnect you".

When they say that $25 reconnect crap they are hurting themselves more than they ever know. I dont think Directv does this. They sound like they do NOT want you back when they say that kind of crap.

I know Oprah has a show because I've read about it on occasion in the news.

Just like I know the same about Dr. Phil.

But I've never seen either show.

I have seen Springer twice, don't know why, but I remember seeing him.

They should do this type of retention offer all the time. If you are paying them $55/month (AT180 + locals) plus a DVR fee, then that's over $700 a year. Giving you a free month of AT180 & a decent upgrade every 5 years is money well spent by Dish.
