Yup ....So Notre Dame 15 million... Big-10 jobbers University of Indiana... 100 million?!
Yes they are, but NBC can easily pay it with far less than is needed for a conference package.NBC is currently giving them 15M, ND is asking for 75M to stay ....
Those two figures are miles apart ...
They actually get just over half of that, around $55 mil.I think I read the Big Ten is giving thier schools 100M
Haven't seen that yet .They actually get just over half of that, around $55 mil.
It's speculation that the new Fox Contract will give them $100 mil. Same speculation that says Notre Dame can get $75 mil.
NBC paying Notre Dame $75 mil is far less than Fox paying the Big Ten $1.6 bil.
Programming. People watch Notre Dame, and it gives NBC a relatively cheap Saturday game that people will watch, especially since ESPN & Fox have all the major conferences tied up.Yes, NBC Could spend 75 M for ND, but why would they ?
They could, but won't as neither school enjoys the national following that Notre Dame has.If ND gets 75M from NBC, Ohio State and Alabama should go Independent and make Triple that .
I Beg to differ ....Programming. People watch Notre Dame, and it gives NBC a relatively cheap Saturday game that people will watch, especially since ESPN & Fox have all the major conferences tied up.
They could, but won't as neither school enjoys the national following that Notre Dame has.
While Alabama is huge in the Southeast and Ohio State is huge in the mid-west, they really don't enjoy the same kind of popularity outside those regions.
Not really. Outside their respective geographic areas, people don't give them any thought unless their team is playing them that week.I Beg to differ ....
The Buckeye Are a National team just like Bama and ND are ....
Buckeye fans pack the building where ever they play.
I guess we can agree to disagree on that one.Not really. Outside their respective geographic areas, people don't give them any thought unless their team is playing them that week.
They don't have anywhere near the national following of Notre Dame
I hadn't realized that it was only Home games that NBC was showing ...The thing about Notre Dame is it just the home games. Generally 7 per year. Leaving NBC with nothing else to show the other weeks besides Xfinity races or no-star golf.
Of the 7 games, one is vs a Group of Five and thus usually a push over, and another will be either Navy or Purdue, also walk overs.
You are correct. Their ratings, while still good, have trailed the other top programs in this discussion for several years now. Here is a good articles on comparing ratings. I'd say ND has trailed the top SEC schools and OSU. So if people watching the games are local almost everyone is watching in those areas.
And of course, I think Notre Dame's ratings would be better if they weren't as average in college football as they've been in the last couple of decades. Of course, their players likely can graduate and get real jobs.

ND fanbase is undoubtedly more nationally spread than regional compared to other top schools, but the total number may be lower even with that being the case.
Because no one outside of Greenville cares about Clempson.I'm also rather surprised how low Clemson is, seeing they have been a Top team for awhile now ...
Oh Yes,Because no one outside of Greenville cares about Clempson.
I'm more surprised Temple has higher viewership than Rutgers. Granted, I think the lower stats are influenced heavily by larger programs playing them. Indiana on par with UCLA... umm no.I'm also rather surprised how low Clemson is, seeing they have been a Top team for awhile now ...
Notre Dame has a nationwide following, good years or bad. While every other team (with the exception of the military academies) is regional (you're not going to find any Ohio St bumper stickers in the deep south, but will still find Notre Dame ones).Oh Yes,
Because ND is the ONLY team that those outside of thier home have any following....
