If that was the case, they would have giving you the option to disable the DVR feature, like locals, you have the option of disabling DVR feature, on 722 & 622

Yes, I do that all of the time, anytime I activate a receiver that would normally have DVR functionality (such as a Hopper Duo or a Wally with an external hard drive attached). Whenever I use the Turn Receivers On/Off tool (on the My Equipment page on mydish) to activate a DVR receiver on my account, the model shown for that receiver on its Diagnostics screen will change, adding a "D" to the end of the model name. (Such as "Wally D") Whenever this happens to a receiver that would normally have a DVR fee (such as "Hopper Duo D") I am not charged the DVR fee on my account. I have to specifically call and request that the DVR functionality be added. Then, that "D" tag gets removed, I regain the DVR functionality, and start getting charged the DVR fee accordingly. When I deactivate the receiver, and then reactivate it again later, this whole cycle starts over again. Someone also posted a thread recently where this same thing (removing DVR functions) happened accidentally to a ViP722. My sister also went through that same thing once, with her ViP722k.
I didn't know you could disable the DVR feature, on Hopper Duo, What about the other Hoppers?
I really do not skip many commercials although I could. How else am I to know what new pill to ask my doctor for or what additives to put in my washing machine. I also like to see promotions for other shows to decide what to watch in the future. The only ads that I do skip are the very repetitive ones that we have all see too many times.
As soon as I have the money to purchase one, I will test this with a Hopper 3. I have always wanted a "Hopper 3D."
Yesterday I watched the entire Super Bowl game, live, on the Hopper 3. I did not skip any commercials. I think I will ask for a credit on the "DVR Service Fee" after calculating what a 4-hour span of not skipping commercials should be worth, pro-rated against the "service fee." Anybody with me?
Wait for the "Reverse AutoHop" option to show up, and then watch all of the commercials again. You could double your money (DVR fee savings) that way.
Is that coming in U9999revA or can I get it now? Just a full reboot?
It is something that Dish has done for the Super Bowl in years past. I'm not sure if they still do that. It looks like the regular kangaroo AutoHop icon, but when you select it, only the Super Bowl commercials will play, with everything else getting hopped.
DISH has only done that once or maybe twice that I remember. I wish they would do it again.
And here I thought you were cracking wise about "Reverse AutoHop".
Of course, now being an OTA adapter adherent having dumped the locals package, I'm quite sure that such a feature wouldn't be available to me without a new FEE.
Actually, the regular autohop is available on our Hoppers via OTA. You just have to enable PTAT and, even though you may not receive locals via satellite and nothing from PTAT gets recorded, you do still get autohop on the OTA channels.
My PTAT is enabled. I guess I don't record anything on purpose from those channels during Prime Time, except maybe 60 Minutes. You're right, the kangaroo is there for my last recording of that show. How long after recording such a show via OTA does the magic kangaroo appear? It seems like it's not particularly quick to appear, but I'm not sure.
IIRC it varies by network and sometimes even by market. Someone whose memory is better than mine can say. But I know that my recordings of ST Discovery don't have the Kangaroo show up for 1 week.
Here was a statement in a Verge article from 2012(!) about AutoHop. I guess maybe it's a case of overpromised and underdelivered? Maybe there's an unpublished extra fee available to enable "enhanced AutoHop" where the 1AM timeframe would kick in.

No, that was in fact delivered and initially it was about 1AM when AutoHop started working for the Big Four. That is why it's called the Hopper.
But then the networks took Disk to court and won settlements as above.
Yes. Autohop when initially delivered was the next day.
