2014 MLB Season

According to a league source, the Red Sox have reached agreement with designated hitter David Ortiz on a one-year, $16M contract extension with vesting option years in 2016 and 2017.

The Rangers have been hit with the injury bug all spring. We will be without our 2nd baseman as well as catcher among others. :(

"If he resists paying, he will pay anyway and he will suffer," a source told the Daily News. "If he forces people to prove he owes them money, the issues that he discussed with his attorneys will be made public — and Alex doesn't want people telling the truth."

Kinda love lawyers and "legal extortion". Am getting the impression even if he pays, ESPN and what not will be publishing the dirt via "anonymous sources".
Arod has enough money to buy a sweet Carribean island, lay low and relax the rest of his life. After that threat from his lawyers (who BTW kissed his ass to represent him), I'd say "go ahead and lose your 3 mil".

What do you guys think of games playing in Austrailia? I think its dumb to start the regular season in Austrailia then fly back and continue spring training games. Why not finish spring training first, play the Austrailian games and then come back and rest for spring training?

Because they want those teams still still have an opening day at home somewhere around the same time as everyone else. I agree that it is weird to play spring training games after 2 official games are in the books though.

I agree, it's stupid.

This playing games across the seas has got to stop ... NFL as well.

The Dodgers are ending the Yankees' 15-year streak as baseball's biggest spenders and as of Tuesday had a projected payroll of $235 million, according to study of all major league contracts by The Associated Press.

New York, which last failed to top the payroll rankings in 1998, was a distant second at $204 million. After that, it was another huge gap to Philadelphia at $180 million, followed by Boston at $163 million and Detroit at $162 million.

Yasiel Puig...by the sounds of it, the lad's quite the head case. At what point does piece of mine/team surpass on-field results?

This was discussed some on MLB Network the other day.

If he continues not hitting and dumb stuff on the field, there is a possibility that they send him down to the minors ... (riding buses may wake him up)

He'll either come around or they could bench him or send him down, I believe the options were that was discussed.

Of course this has to be done by the Dodgers, not the media.

Fwiw, he's only played about 75 games in the minors ...

Kinda like what happened to the Expos when Loria refused to broadcast the games because sports station wouldnt pay what he thought they were worth.
That was the first step in that whole MLB conspiracy to rid MLB of Montreal.

Jays Jays Jays... all offense, no pitching. I expect them to finish at the bottom of the AL East.....AGAIN

are you going to the jays/mets games in montreal tomorrow and/or saturday?
i know the games are on mlb net so wonder if there will be any "loria sucks" signs :)

According to ESPN, Miguel Cabrera has agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers on a new 10-year contract that will pay him just under $300M.

Based on a career average of 607 at-bats per season and an average of $30 million annually, Cabrera would earn $49,423 per at-bat.

Well worth it ! :D

This is also being discussed in the AL Central thread. :)

Taking in to consideration the players age and time left on current contract, this is the most insane contract I can remember.

Mike Trout should send a thank you note at his age he's going to make 35/yr+

The Prince Fielder contract was MUCH worse ...
Thats the player Trout should thank.

At least theres value in the Cabrera deal.

All 10 year deals are dumb, doesn't matter who its with ...
