2014 MLB Season

Btw, the umpires got the call wrong on Saturday. He was off the bag at 2nd. How with every camera the umps missed it, I'll never know.

MLB admitted that they got it wrong.

The big difference in the MLB replay system compared to the NFL and NHL varieties is that MLB uses a rotation of current on-field umpires at the replay center. NFL and NHL use retired or other supervisor officials.

I would much rather have the people making the call IN THE Building vs in NY eating bon bons .... they can't possibly be watching all these games intently.

Putting them in NY just begs to get people talking about the yankees getting preferential treatment on reviewed calls ... they got one that way in the opening week ...

I don't think the issue for some is that they're in a central office. The issue is that they're current umps who may work again on the field with the guys whose calls they're reviewing. It really shouldn't make a difference, you would think they want to just get the calls right. But, that is a factor considered by other sports when they decided to put retired officials and/or supervisors in the review role....

Possibly, but with the reviews being readily available to the public eye, they can't fudge the results and maintain credibility.

I thought that was the one you meant. On the Yankee broadcast they had the angle immediately after the umps made their decision. If they had waited literally 10 seconds longer they would have gotten it right. The announcers said they heard they didn't have that angle right away. Besides, as noted in the article you linked to, it didn't affect the outcome of the game.

Interesting that the Orioles-Red Sox game is the Sunday night game, because tomorrow is the annual Patriot's Day (aka Marathon Monday) 11 AM start at Fenway. I did notice that tonight's game starts at 7:00pm ET- one hour earlier than the regular Sunday Night Baseball time.

That is a very quick turnaround. I'll bet Farrell is pissed about it.

I'm thinking the Sunday night game may have to do with the anniversary of the marathon bombings. In all my years following the Red Sox, I don't recall them playing a night game the day before their annual 11 AM game.

Devon Messaroco is knocking the cover off the ball right now. Batting around .500

I wonder if Mejia is a flash in the pan for the Mets? 3-0 so far. I dont know what to say about Granderson. He's been awful so far. Why do guys come here and stink? Alomar, Jason Bay etc. I'm glad Farnsworth got the closer role. ANYBODY but Valverde.

Also, a couple of other things. The suspensions were handed out from the brawl between the Bucs/Brewers. Why did Gomez get 3 instead of 5 games? I mean Cole should've kept his mouth shut but Gomez went berserk. Why was Harper benched for not hustling? I could understand if it was a single or double and didnt do that but it was a weak comeback to the pitcher?
