Btw, the umpires got the call wrong on Saturday. He was off the bag at 2nd. How with every camera the umps missed it, I'll never know.
MLB admitted that they got it wrong.
The big difference in the MLB replay system compared to the NFL and NHL varieties is that MLB uses a rotation of current on-field umpires at the replay center. NFL and NHL use retired or other supervisor officials.
I would much rather have the people making the call IN THE Building vs in NY eating bon bons .... they can't possibly be watching all these games intently.
Putting them in NY just begs to get people talking about the yankees getting preferential treatment on reviewed calls ... they got one that way in the opening week ...
I don't think the issue for some is that they're in a central office. The issue is that they're current umps who may work again on the field with the guys whose calls they're reviewing. It really shouldn't make a difference, you would think they want to just get the calls right. But, that is a factor considered by other sports when they decided to put retired officials and/or supervisors in the review role....
Possibly, but with the reviews being readily available to the public eye, they can't fudge the results and maintain credibility.
That is a very quick turnaround. I'll bet Farrell is pissed about it.
