2013 MLB Postseason

Sad , isn't it. :(

The Red Sox are in the same situation with the Rays as their opponent. Fox has the ALCS this year, and you know that they're rooting for a Tigers-Red Sox matchup. If either the A's or Rays sneaks in there, yes Fox will be disappointed. But if they BOTH advance to the ALCS, that will be a DISASTER for Fox.

On the NL side, TBS has the NLCS. There's no question that they would prefer the Dodgers over the Braves. In the Pirates-Cards series, I don't think they lose with either team.

Well, it looks like time off hasn't helped Cabrera much, he's had a base hit tonight, but looked like he has no ability to use his legs, thus has little to no power ... just not able to drive the ball this way.

Like Kemp, a lot of his power is from his lower body. Injured lowered body will impact his power.

Scherzer is getting it done tonight. Only one hit through 6 innings.

I somewhat buy that but the list I saw last season showed the FS Detroit and the Tigers with the highest TV ratings in the MLB. Now these are local ratings and population size does affect them. I'm not sure hoe the Tigers national games hold up in the ratings compared to the other playoff teams.

I remember being surprised when I saw similar ratings the year before. I had been told long ago that the Red Sox were in the third largest television market, because not only did they have Boston, they also had Providence, Springfield, Hartford, plus Portland and Bangor, Maine, and I think Plattsburgh, New York. I had long figured that the second largest market belonged to either Chicago or or Los Angeles teams but was surprised to learn that Philadelphia was second. I think Detroit may have been fourth or fifth in number of cable TV homes that carried their sportschannel. Still, Detroit has no historic basis for a national following. Al Kaline wasn't exactly Stan Musial, and Willie Horton wasn't even... Willie Horton.

In Colon's case, ERA stands for Eating Raviolis Again!

The resurgent careers of Colon and Ortiz indicate to me that there are still some undetectable PEDs. Ortiz missed half of 2012, spent the winter wearing some kind of boot to immobilize his ankle, discovered at the start of the season that it didn't work and missed a few more weeks, and then, all of a sudden, he plays like he is a decade younger for 130 games and hit a home run that left his bat at the fastest times speed of any ball he had hit since 2006 or 2007. There are actually people with radar guns keeping track of that.

Saturday's playoff schedule:

Rays (Price) at Red Sox (Lackey)- ALDS Game 2-5:30pm ET (TBS)
Tigers
(Verlander) at Athletics (Gray)- ALDS Game 2- 9:00pm ET (TBS)

Ummm, don't dis Kaline, he may not have been Mantel, but he was a GREAT player deserving of much more credit than he gets.

There are not many Mantels ...
