Maybe there is an exception if a player is on the DL. I don't think that's how it works though. I heard today that the Tigers brought Guillen back from the DL today even though he isn't ready to play yet so he would be eligible for the playoffs.

To be eligible for the playoff roster, you must be on the active 25 man roster, the DL, or one of the other leave lists (bereavement, suspension, etc.) at midnight of Aug 31

I'm sure you think the Tigers will sweep the Sox. Truth is, the Sox pretty much need the sweep and definitely need 2 of 3. I know Verlander is pitching Friday, but the Sox have hit him pretty well this year and Danks has been lights out lately. Should be a great series.
