Twins' shirts mark next comeback 'happening'
The Detroit News
Minnesota Twins fans are preparing for another comeback — somewhat.
In the Central Division, the Twins are just six games behind the Tigers and Indians, who are tied for first place. In early June, the Twins trailed by 16 ½ games and have gradually cut the deficit by 10 games in just over a month.
A sports-talk radio host on ESPN 1500 AM in Minnesota coined the phrase, "It's Happening" in predicting the Twins would put together another second-half comeback, as they've done three times in the past decade.
The radio station is selling shirts with the catch phrase and also promoting social media avatars and desktop wallpapers to spread the word through the website itshappening.tc.
Tigers fans remember 2009, when the Twins trailed the first-place Tigers by three games with four games remaining and ended up winning the division in a one-game tiebreaker.
Another memorable comeback occurred in 2006, when the Twins made up a 12-1/2 game deficit to win the Division. The Tigers went on to claim the wild card and make it all the way to the World Series.
Also, in 2003, the Twins overcame a 7-1/2 game difference to win the Central.
