2011 AL Central Thread

I think he pitched an inning on Sunday or Monday, and yes...I like him a lot better out of the bullpen. While I was back in the area I saw Phil Coke being interviewed on FSD and he mentioned it was his goal to earn back a starting position. He just always seemed to let up a really big inning no matter how well he was pitching.

Good luck with that ... I think they will go to Jacob Turner before they take Coke out of the pen, particularly if he pitches as well as they expect him to ...

A DRIVE............. TO DEEP RIGHT FIELD! WAYYYYY BACK! GONNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A WALK-OFF GRAND SLAM! INDIANS WIN!!!!!!!!

From, the Cleveland Plain Dealer...

The Indians did nothing, nada, zilch for eight innings until Hafner sent a moon ball from lefty Luis Perez into the right field seats to win it.

"That's about as hard as I can hit a ball," said Hafner, who turned and shouted one second after ball met bat.

Pronk knew it was gone. So did everyone else in the ballpark. Then it was bedlam. It was New Year's Eve at Times Square. The place went absolutely bonkers!!!!

I know it's corny, but something about this season just seems..... well, magical.

Hafner is turning back into the scary Hafner from 2005-2006 that belted homers and had a tendency to go nuts with the bases loaded.

(Posting from Spain)

Tigers Ordonez needs to sit, or hustle in the outfield, tired of balls falling in front of him.
Glad they are playing Dirks and Wells in the outfield of late, but it does nothing for line up continuity.

Also, Ric Porcello has pitched well of late and has gotten some shoddy D behind him, not necessarily errors, but lack of a DP here and there, a ball that gets thru that normally wouldn't ect.

Yep, we noticed several balls fell lazily in front of the outfielder when I was back for the SF series...and 2-3 of those could have been caught with a good effort. I agree that Ordonez should be moved over to DH.

However, the DH position is filled for the most part with Martinez, which would have Ordonez in the line up ONLY when Martinez catches .... which takes another pretty good hitter, Avila OUT of the line up.

Is Ordonez signed past this year ?

I would like to see Jackson, Dirks and Boesch in the outfield for awhile and see what they can do, gotta love speed in the outfield, but they will have to HIT enough to be there. ... we saw what happened when the Angels put speed in the outfield.

That said,
Tigers just replaced Ordonez with Wells in the 7th inning for D purposes, witch puts more speed in the outfield, Wells, Dirks and Boesch !

Good point...if Ordonez can't cut it in the outfield---and his bat certainly hasn't been belting sweet-singles, delicious-doubles and horrific-homers lately---then he may need to sit. As I recall (although I could be wrong) Ordonez is playing an option year and the Tigers have one of more option year to keep him around in 2011. However, as much as I like Magglio he has a history of knee problems dating back to his day the White Sox and at age 37 his days are numbered given his more recent injuries. The Tigers just don't need him if he can't play in the outfield, and he can't swing a bat without healthy wheels.

In all honesty, he hasn't had any knee issues since he's been with the Tigers.
He's just now getting back into the line up, so I would give him another 3 weeks and see where they stand, he needs time to get his avg back up, can't blame him at this point for a .208 avg seeing how little he's played.
Maggs has moved his avg. up to .215 now ...

I didn't realize that Maggs is a career .309 hitter.

Nice, but it's more justification as to why we shouldn't be slumming in the .500 range.

They are 5 games over, 6 in a minute, how many would you expect ?
Also only 2 games under on the road ( if they wrap it up tonight.)
Which is a BIG IF the way Valverde is pitching. Very surprised that he made the ASG.

Gonna start calling him Roller Coaster.

These aren't the '84 Tigers.

For those that are having baseball withdrawls...
