2011 AL Central Thread

No-no gone after eight, but, more importantly, the Twins are up 6–1 after eight with a chance to get the division lead into singe digits.

All of us AL Central fans should know that the Twins are Never out of it, particularly because we know they are the one team that ALWAYS is there at the end of the year down the streach.

and considering the hodge podge team we're using right now

heck yesterday the only 3 "names" in the lineup were Delmon Young, Cuddyer and Valencia.
Today was just like it. Yesterday the Twins had for the 1st time in MLB history 2 guys in starting lineup named "Rene"

No Morneau, Mauer, Nishi, Thome, Kubel, Span etc....

Is it too much ground to make up? Nothing would surprise me in the AL Central.

Were still in the FIRST half of the season, it's definitely not too much to make up, particularly if the Tigers falter like they usually do in the second half.

Then again, if Boesch remembers how to hit in the second half, maybe they won't repeat thier typical 2nd half ...
Also need to get M. Cabrera going soon.

Hopefully we'll get Ordonez back healthy, get some help in middle relief, trade Coke for Vernors, and hopefully not lose anyone to injury the second half this season.

Hey, I've decided to come into town for the 4th of July holiday. I'll be in town for the Tigers series against the Giants (Friday-Sunday). Anyone up for a game? Also, we'll probably have a couple cookout if you're interested.

A buddy from work has tickets to the Sat and Sun games , going with his family, staying at a hotel in the area.

Looks like Ordonez will be back on Monday after speculation that he would be down here another week.
I personally would not start him right away at least in the outfield and I would NOT move Boesch out of the #3 spot in the order.

Who has been playing RF of late, you've got Jackson in CF and I think Boesch has been in LF.

Ok, a quick peak shows that Boesch has been playing both RF and LF while Andy Dirks has also played LF when Boesch has been in RF and Casper Wells has played the other time in RF.

So, does Wells or Dirks go down when Maggs comes back ?

Have been away for about 10 days now, just getting back from vacation. What the hell happened to my Indians while I was away?! Talk about a terrible slump. Ugh!!

Detroit Tigers make 104th Birthday Bash Terrific for Fan

Full Story

One of the things I really love about baseball and the Tigers organization...

"For Mary Johnson, the wait to celebrate her 104th birthday at Comerica Park by watching her beloved Tigers play was worth it, even though Detroit lost.

Johnson was to celebrate her birthday on May 15 but that game was rained out. She finally got the chance to celebrate on Sunday by seeing the Tigers play the Seattle Mariners -- the first game she has attended since 1936.

"It's beautiful," she told the newspaper of her impression of Comerica Park. "I couldn't say another word."

According to the Detroit Free Press, Johnson's belated birthday bash included a a limousine ride to the ballpark, a birthday greeting on the stadium scoreboard and a chance to meet one of her favorite players -- Tigers great Al Kaline.

Kaline visited Johnson before the game in a stadium suite and signed baseballs. Kaline, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1980 and hit 399 career homers in 22 seasons (all with the Tigers) came away impressed.

"She's awesome," Kaline told the newspaper. "She's so sharp."

She grew up in Henderson, Ky., and moved to Detroit in 1936. Johnson, whose birthday was May 10, came to visit her brother and never left.

Johnson even made an appearance on television when she was interviewed during the game by Fox Sports Detroit.

"I've never had a celebration like this before in my life," Johnson told the newspaper."

For those that are having baseball withdrawls...
