Tigers traded Scott Sizemore to Oakland today .... So much for him being the 2B of the future/present.

Detroit — The hodge-podge the Tigers call second base just got more complicated.
They've traded Scott Sizemore to the Oakland Athletics for left-handed reliever David Purcey — and have recalled infielder Danny Worth from Toledo.
If Worth gets the bulk of the playing time from now on, he'll be the third second baseman the Tigers have turned to as the starter before the 1/3 mark of the season has been played.
Will Rhymes preceded Sizemore.
"We just can't get Scott over the hump from an offensive perspective," said Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski. "Maybe a change of scenery will help him.
"We always envisioned Scott as an offensive second baseman. We just haven't been successful in getting him to hit at the big-league level.
"I didn't see any benefit in sending him back to Triple A."
Sizemore was handed the second-base starting job after he was recalled from Toledo on May 3. In 17 games, he hit .222.
When Dombrowski called Sizemore into manager Jim Leyland's office before Friday night's game against Boston, he told him the deal "was coming out of left field and that he would be taken back by it."
He was.
"I just couldn't find my stride," said a visibly shaken Sizemore as he packed to leave. "I couldn't get it to click."
Purcey, meanwhile, is a relief pitcher the Tigers had their eye on for a while. In nine games for the A's this season after being acquired from Toronto on April 18, he had a 2.13 ERA and limited opponents to a .191 batting average.
In five games this season before being traded to Oakland, he had an 11.57 ERA for the Blue Jays, who designated him for assignment on April 12.
Purcey had been with Toronto since 2008 — with 2010 being his best season. In 33 appearances last year, he was 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA.
In 68 career appearances, he has a 5-10 record with a 5.17 ERA. He was a first-round draft choice by the Jays in 2004.
Purcey, 29, has pitched well, but wildly against the Tigers. In 23 innings, he's walked 17 but has a 1.96 ERA.
"We've been trying to get him for a long time," Dombrowski said. "We tried to get him last winter, but they wouldn't trade him. We also tried to get him when he was traded by Toronto, but weren't fortunate enough to get him.
"Oakland is getting healthy and has an abundance of relievers now, so we called to tell them of our interest in Purcey. They said they would do it if Sizemore was involved.
"Hopefully (Purcey) will help stabilize our bullpen. He's a hard-thrower who used to be a starter. We look at him as someone who can probably pitch in middle relief, seventh inning-ish.
"He's a guy who can pitch an inning or two out of the bullpen."
Despite having started in the past, Purcey is not a candidate to start — not a Phil Coke, in other words.
"We have one of those," Dombrowski said, "and he's starting. And he's staying starting."
Worth was scheduled to join the Tigers in time for Friday night's game against Boston. He hit .270 with three home runs and eight RBI in 31 games at Toledo this season. In 39 games for the Tigers last year, he hit .255.
Of the way second base now shapes up for the Tigers, Dombrowski said, "We have some different candidates there," — listing Worth, Ramon Santiago and Ryan Raburn.
