Why is it that the media Continues to go on and on and about Tebow?

How about talking about a quarterback who has actually DONE SOMETHING this year like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Andy Dalton?

Just because Tebow walks on water and is a nIce guy does not mean he has to get almost a's much media attention this year as Tom Brady!

Is this a rhetorical question? It's a polarizing topic is all. It will remain until he a bit after he's benched or the topic otherwise has some closure.

In the wake of Kris Dielman obviously being shaken up but continuing to play and then having a seizure on the flight home a week ago NFL officials will receive training to spot concussions and alert teams to get them the appropriate medical care.

Officials will be asked to look for concussions | ProFootballTalk
Game officials?? They, and team staff have gone through that training. The refs can send a player off the field to get checked out, but if the team's medical staff clears him, he can return...

Yeah, game officials. He waved off officials and the sideline, I expect they will just have more power to stop play in the event of a suspected concussion and make a player get evaluated, which he never was during the game. This is a baby step towards what they need to do, which is take some of these decisions out of the hands of the player (who wants to play) and the team (who wants him to play, and could classify an injury as neck, or 'dirt in face' to avoid the new concussion rules).

I agree with PFT that this isn't enough. We'll see how it progresses, maybe this is just a step towards more action being instituted next season.

I know at the high school level the refs have the authority to send a player off to get checked out. Maybe that's needed at the NFL level too...

Contrary to Hollywood,a concussion is a traumatic brain injury. If you get "knocked unconscious" that is a major medical emergency. You don't get up afterwards & continue business as usual, you go straight to the emergency room, preferably by ambulance,& get tested(C/T scans,MRI's,etc.) for bleeding on the brain(brain hemorrhage) &/or brain swelling which will cause seizures. Knocked unconscious=coma. Maybe they should stop saying "concussion" & call it what it really is,a "traumatic brain injury." if you put it like that both players AND fans will take it more seriously. I was watching a Hawaii 5-0 episode that I recorded last night & one of the actresses gets "knocked out" by the perp with a tool big enough to crack her skull,& in real life more than likely would have,& well she gets up later like nothing happened & continues business as usual. With bull s**t like this on TV & in the movies no wonder nobody takes concussions seriously.

I guess I am not sure what your rant is replying to. The problem is players and perhaps some teams do not take concussions seriously enough. Plenty of players receive concussions, are knocked unconscious, and don't go down the path of many of the more serious traumatic brain injuries you just mentioned. This is not an overrused term... players are being concussed.

A concussion is what's keeping Sidney Crosby off of the ice right now after suffering it last season.Repeated concussions caused Troy Aikman & Steve Young to retire. Everybody, including players & teams need to take it more seriously. If you are knocked unconscious, you need to go to the hospital to be evaluated to make sure everything is all right. Better to rule out possible brain damage & injuries like hemorrhage &/or swelling. Some people do get knocked unconscious & don't wake up. Watching TV doesn't help, they make things like concussions & being knocked unconscious unrealistic,& people don't know that they are being fed bull s**t because a program has 60 minutes to wrap things up(a movie 90 minutes),& the producer doesn't want to waste time showing a trip to the ER when there's a villain to catch.
Anybody who misses a game due to a concussion is viewed as a wimp by most people who don't know any better. Replace the word "concussion" with "traumatic brain injury" & people will wake up & say "whoa."

I don't agree, you say concussions and point to Mohammed Ali and people say whoa.

Players think they are invincible because of their conditioning, not because of some TV shows.

A few too many sweeping generalizations for my taste.

Randomly ask the average person who doesn't have any medical training what they think of concussions. I'm an LPN & former army medic(well, that was where I got my LPN training). I may over simplify & generalize head injuries, but anyone who gets a concussion should be seen by a doctor to assess the severity. If someone is knocked unconscious, they should go immediately to the emergency room(if they're not out in the wilderness or some other form of isolation). They need to be thoroughly examined & maybe even stay overnight in the hospital for observation. It is that serious & it is better to be safe than sorry. That is certainly not an over reaction.

Who is talking about ordinary people in the NFL thread about concussions? What does that have to do with anything?

I had the brilliant idea for the Broncos to trade Tim Tebow to the Houston Texans for Matt Leinart. My reasoning was that the Broncos' season was shot to hell anyway & their only hope was next year's draft. My top three QB choices were Stanford's Andrew Luck,USC's Matt Barkley,& Oklahoma's Landry Jones, who is also a devout Christian & prospective minister. Then I found out out that they were all three juniors in college. Well that sucks(no pun intended),I can't go through another season of "Suck for Luck,Barkley,or Jones." the good news is that Boise State's Kellen Moore is a senior. Of the three junior QB's mentioned above,I highly doubt that Landry Jones will come out. Andrew Luck seems to love being in school & might return for yet another season. Maybe someone can convince Matt Barkley to come out(when is USC's probation over?). Looks like 2013 will be a great year for QB's.
As far as Kellen Moore goes,I am reminded of when I was in the army & stationed in Germany. The post I was on was almost all male. The club we went to off post most likely had as many women as you could count on one hand with ten or more males per female at the club, you know the fat ugly women got a lot of attention. That's how I see Kellen Moore in next year's draft if none of the big three QB's I mentioned above comes out.

My second brilliant idea contingent on the first concerning the Broncos was to fire John Fox,& then try to see if they could get Gary Kubiak as head coach next season.
