2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Shakeout from tonight's Washington vs. Montreal Game 7

If the Caps win:
Philadelphia vs. Washington
Boston vs. Pittsburgh

If the Habs win:
Montreal vs. Pittsburgh
Philadelphia vs. Boston

Western Conference:
San Jose vs. Detroit
Chicago vs. Vancouver

What does tonight's game mean? Offhand, I see the Penguins winning the Eastern Conference and skating into the Final should Montreal win this evening. However, I see the Capitals winning the Eastern Conference and making a return to the Final since '98 should win tonight. This game is huge!!!

As of this mornings talk radio show in the D, I don't think they have worked out what networks will be showing what games.

My understanding NBC has a stake, VS. has 2 games guaranteed exclusively to themselves, CBC has a stake, and I'm sure the FSN's have their slice as well
I absolutely hate the games on NBC and their crack[smoking] broadcast team.

I agree with you in one are.

If the Caps lose- IMHO, the Penguins would have what seems to be a cakewalk to the Cup Finals.

The Canadiens are trying to become the ninth (out of a possible 30) 8th seed to beat the top seed since the NHL went to this playoff format in 1994.

The others................

No. 8 beats No. 1

1994 -- San Jose (8) won best-of-seven series 4-3 over Detroit (1)
1995 -- N.Y. Rangers (8) won best-of-seven series 4-2 over Quebec (1)
1998 -- Ottawa (8) won best-of-seven series 4-2 over New Jersey (1)
1999 -- Pittsburgh (8) won best-of-seven series 4-3 over New Jersey (1)
2000 -- San Jose (8) won best-of-seven series 4-3 over St. Louis (1)
2002 -- Montreal (8) won best-of-seven series 4-2 over Boston (1)
2006 -- Edmonton (8) won best-of-seven series 4-2 over Detroit (1)
2009 -- Anaheim (8) won best-of-seven series 4-2 over San Jose (1)
All are conference quarterfinal series

To be honest, I am not entirely convinced the Capitals would handle the Penguins...it's just my feeling they will be a step-ahead of the Penguins in a seven game series this year. Additionally, these series are all about matchups. For example, I feel the Wings matchup well against San Jose and Chicago, but less so against Vancouver...and I am so glad the Wings didn't play Nashville during the 1st round.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to the 2nd round matchups but tonight's game will be fun.

Dave,
I believe the local FSN's have the first two rounds for sure, that said, they can also be on another network as well.

After this round the FSN's are done and it goes to the national networks.
I guess they consider VS a national network seeing they have the contract.

If this scenario happens, then that means Cavs-Celtics game 3 would be next Wednesday night at the Garden.

If the Bruins play the Flyers there wouldn't be any potential conflicts with the Celtics.

If Montreal wins this game and the series- another chapter would be added to their legend and mystique.

As a Sabres fan who knows how tough it is to play these guys.

It would be a nice win, but it would hardly rate being mentioned given Montreal's storied past. I just noticed the '93-'93 Canadiens were the last team from Canada to win the Stanley Cup.

Would be nice to have a Detroit/Canadian Team Stanley Cup Final :D

I said that last year...shortly before Montreal got bounced. To be honest, the most likely matcup-up once again appears to be the Wings and Penguins. As much as I would love a little payback I would really love to see someone other than another than the Wings-Pens.

Wow! The Capitals have a goal waived-off because their player was "in-the-crease". The past 2-3 years the refs have been calling tons of in-the-crease calls, but this is probably the first I've seen this playoff season. Go figure! To be honest, the refs were ridiculous with the amount of in-the-crease calls they made the past couple years.
