2010 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament Thread

With Butler moving a step closer to pulling off what Sparty did a year ago- a homestate Final Four- you can't help but wonder, WTF was Todd Lickliter thinking when he left Butler for Iowa?
Talk about a dumbass. He's already been fired from Iowa.

Shoot, it just isn't fair. After a really good season the big schools from big conferences should be able to just show up and pick up their trophies. Darn shame little schools from rinky-dink conferences show up and play basketball.:D

True some of the Big guys are gone, but your not giving enough credit, a lot of the smaller teams have done well prior and should not be a surprise to be here.

Butler , Xavier (if they make it) have been in the running year in and year out.
Maybe not the Final 4, but they are normally in the area (16) .

If K-State loses in OT, that foul could go down as one of the worst ever in the tourney.

You're up 3. Why foul? Any team would just let them jack up a 3 that they could miss. They had the game in hand, and now they are on the verge of potentially blowing it.

K-State holds off Xavier in double overtime.

We have the first two Elite Eight games set:

East- Kentucky vs, West Virginia in a clash of elite teams, quality coaches- this is the matchup that a lot of people picked in their East brackets

West- Butler vs. Kansas State- this will be something you don't see often- two schools that have never made a Final Four fighting to make that historic voyage. It's usually two schools that have made the Final Four or one that has vs. one that hasn't. This will be a fascinating game to watch.

Thoughts

Yes Syracuse had 18 turnovers last night, but that's not the reason they lost. Shocked? I say this because they averaged 15 turnovers throughout the regular season. This is a team who won, in most cases handily, despite turnovers. Last night they got beat by the hottest team in the nation. What's that, 23 in a row now for Butler? Wow!

The real reason they lost was the dreaded zone defense they play. Live by the sword, die by the sword they say. When Butler showed that they could play against the zone, Syracuse didn't make any adjustments. A zone does nothing to pressure the other team or change tempo. Syracuse needed to dictate tempo, especially late in the game, but they didn't change to man coverage. Instead, they stubbornly stuck to the zone and Butler and their young, genius of a coach found out how to break it.

Agree with both points.

Another point is that sometimes Syracuse has to win despite Boeheim. He is a great recruiter and a great game prep coach, but too often when it is time to make decisions on the fly he leaves you scratching your head.

Less than a minute left, coming out of a time out, Butler is inbounding and you know Serracuss is going to foul. So what does Boeheim do? He has one of his best three point shooters, Andy Rautins, in the game and he picks up his fifth foul...are you serious? Cannot believe the announcers did not pick up on that.

The goal at that point is to commit a foul in less than one second, and when they go to the foul line you can bring Rautins back in. Just ridiculous.

The Kentucky / WVU game is going to be a good one. Get your popcorn ready ( to steal a phrase from TO).
