2010-11 NFL Season

Special Commentary by HD MM on the State of your Cleveland Browns.

Next up, Mangini vs. his former team and the return of stone hands/consummate douche, Braylon Edwards and The New York Jets! Expect heads to roll !!!!!

You're catching the Jets at the right time, they're playing worse every week. Their record is good, how they got there is not. Definitely ripe for the picking.

According to the ESPN, Wade Phillips has NOT reported to the Dallas Cowboys complex for the weekly coaches meeting. Could this mean to he is done? I think IF he is not fired BEFORE the next game, he will be the coaching for the rest of the year.

The Cowboys' public relations office sent notice this morning of media availability for Monday. As of now, Wade Phillips is still scheduled for a 4 p.m. (CDT) press conference, which can be seen live on DallasCowboys.com.

The subject of the meeting, obviously, could change if Phillips is let go beforehand.

I'm so sick of all the Cowboy's talk. Who cares. They were overrated from the start. They are NOT America's team. They are who we thought they were. They ARE the most overhyped thing going in sports right now though! It's pathetic that grown men getting paid a substantial sum with supposed talent can't find a way to get motivated enough to play with any heart though. Typical 'boys!

Relax.....it is not ALL about your Browns.:p

I posted the same in the Raider thread....

....One the best things to happen yesterday OTHER than the Raider win....the return of the 12th man!!! DAMN it was nice to the the stadium FILLED TO THE BRIM with Raider crazies!!!

There no scarier and exhilarating experience than to go to a game in Oakland Alemeda County Stadium when the place is packed!!! Yeah, there are crazies at EVERY football game from college to the pros. BUT, when you got to a Raider game, in the middle of Raider Nation, the ORIGINAL "nation" where fans look like there was a work release program agreed to by the city of Oakland and the California Department of corrections... it is someone out of a Rob Zombie nightmare.... it is AWESOME!!!!

I cannot wait to be there December 26th, the day after Christmas when the "Ray-dahs" host the Colts. NOTHING funnier/scarier/crazier than Raider crazies with Santa outfits.

Ok, the signs are there. We are finally moving in the right direction! Players are buying into Mangini's philosophy. I'm glad we stayed the course with him. Despite all the ridicule he's received from New York, he actually is a really good coach! If you've seen the scheming he's done the last two weeks, you'd think he was a Belichick disciple. Oh wait....

The pieces we've added since the front office additions of GM Tom Heckert and acting boss, Mike Holmgren are evident. Love what this team is turning into. So refreshing after suffering for so long!

At the midpoint in the season, we're 3-5 with convincing wins against two of the top teams in the league in New Orleans and New England. Of the 5 losses, 3 of them were lost in the final minutes of the 4th quarter. There hasn't been a single game that we haven't been in! Finally, football is exciting again in Cleveland! I really see us moving in the right direction and that is awesome!

As for yesterday's win, three things stood out to me:

1. Peyton Hillis is an absolute beast and will be a secret no more. He is as strong as any back I've ever seen, but coupled with nimbleness and quickness. That is a rare combination. Belichick made a point to seek him out following the 184 yards and 2 TD's he dropped on the Pats defense to shake his hand. Hillis is a consummate Cleveland Brown. An old school back who pounds the ball straight up the middle and punishes opponents. It's funny how the rest of the offense clicks with a great ground game!

2. Colt McCoy, one of the most accurate College QB's of last year's draft made another case to be our QB moving forward. Our second 3rd round pick that no one seemed to want is showing that he can be our franchise QB. Dude has moxy, accuracy and great decision making! I love this kid! I read a cool story in the paper about him the other day. Outside of Holmgren's office, there is two framed pictures. One of Brett Favre and one of Joe Montana. Both whom Holmgren had a part in grooming. Colt McCoy said in complete seriousness, "Coach, I'm going to be hanging in a frame next to those two someday. You'll see." Homgren was taken back by those comments and didn't know what to say. Colt McCoy is brimming with confidence and is a proven winner. His demeanor is contagious. I love that about him!

3. Our defense, led by Rob Ryan has been intimidatingly good this season! One of the reasons why we've been in every game this season is that we've held every opponent we've faced to 28 points or less. Frightening considering the production he's getting out of a bunch of no name players. Excited to see what the future brings!

The big high, soon to be followed by the BIG CRASH! Who will be there to pick up the pieces of HD MM when this happens?

Hey, better than the weekly disappointment I'm living.

I think it's safe to say that the Browns' swap of Quinn for Hills is the equivalent of trading an apple with a worm and getting a box of Twinkies- one side looks like they got duped, the other is looking likr a genius.

(As a Bills fan, I think viewer discretion will have to be advised when Hillis goes up against that porous run defense.)

Hey, better than the weekly disappointment I'm living.

You said two weeks ago the Browns used up our surprise upset win on the Saints. This week we beat another formidable team in the Patriots. I'm not ready to start predicting playoffs or Super Bowls, but I am happy with the progress and if anything I am starting to get reason to believe again! And that is a good thing!

PS. I have a feeling this isn't Colt's first rodeo. I have a feeling there is more where this is coming from!

I am just flabbergasted that no one ever gave Peyton Hillis a shot at running the ball consistently until this year! Up until this point, including his time in Arkansas, he was always told he would never amount to anything except a Full Back. He's on pace to rush for over 1,300 yards and 16 TD's!

Speaking of Akransas Running backs, did you know Felix Jones, Darren McFadden AND Peyton Hillis all shared the backfield during their tenure with the Razorbacks? Wow!!!

3 interesting stats:

1. The Browns win yesterday marks just the second time since 2002 that an AFC North team beat the Patriots!

2. Peyton Hillis' 184 yards were the most rushing yards by a back allowed by the Pats since 2002!

3. When was the last time you saw a loosing team take a knee to end the game? This is what we did to the Pats on Sunday. We beat them into submission!

Now the big low:

Daze of our Lions

The facts:

10 point lead with 3 minutes to go. Defense has mopped the field withe Jets offense. we have the ball, NY has no timeouts. And somehow we lose again.
Schwartz makes a bonehead call of asking the 3rd string QB to throw the ball. Incomplete, the clock stops. In his defense, it was a 5 yd. pass to a wide open RB. Somehow Stanton mistakes the RB's ankles for his hands.

Jason Hanson gets injured on a kick. So what would you do? Send in a DT (Suh) to kick the extra point? Of course you would! The punter was too valuable holding the kick, to ask him to try. Why not just go for two? Of course there is a history of bad coaching decisions here - Like giving Chicago the ball in OT, after winning the coin flip a couple of years back.

The defense that played so well all game suddenly reverts back to being the Lions again, and of course we lose.

Once again they snatched a loss right from the jaws of victory. When will this team learn how to win?

And of course to add insult to injury, we lose Stafford. Again.

Hasn't Detroit suffered enough? Another season down the crapper. At least we will be able to draft low enough to maybe find a QB that doesn't fall apart every time he hits the turf.

Excuse while I go shoot myself. If I was a Lion, I'd probably miss.

Oh, I'm eating crow here Matt. I really am. Congratulations! What does it feel like? I'm afraid I'll spend my whole life without knowing. I have so far.

Here's another, a sure sign that parity is upon us:

This season is the first in 50 years where there are no undefeated or one-loss teams through week 9.
