2010-11 NBA Basketball Season

check out how the Boston 3 did their first few games. Look at the difference. You don't think its work ethic? Why else would this team come out flat every night?
SLAM ONLINE | » Chris Bosh Just Wants to Chill

Really dude? Riley's teams practices, where he was coaching or POPO... are notorious for being the most strenuous in the NBA. EVERY players that has gone through the system has either hated it or loved it. But they have ALL talked about it.

So if you are getting this from a comment Bosh made. Dude, you must believe EVERYTHING that comes from a media outlet.

Now since you seem to believe EVERYTHING that comes from the media, here ya go:

On Wednesday night, Chris Bosh(notes) ended up with egg on his face when he followed up a breakout 35-point game against the Suns by saying he and the Heat "want to chill" instead of being really intense like coach Erik Spoelstra. He got his fair share of criticism for it, including on this blog, and altogether it was yet another bump in the road for Bosh as he tries to fit into the Heat uber-team. Even when he plays well, he makes himself look bad by saying something dumb.

Except it might not be quite as dumb as we previously thought. Bosh explained what he meant to Dan LeBatard on Miami's 790 the Ticket (transcribed by the essential Sports Radio Interviews):

"OK, I really don't understand. I can understand why people want to hear that, but in all honesty, we work extremely hard. We work extremely hard. We love our job. We love what we do. ... When you go to work and you work hard, you feel that sometimes you need to rest a little bit so you can perform when it's time to perform. Spo, he's a natural head coach. Just like any other head coach, he's gonna feel like, ‘We have to work at this,' because he has to be a perfectionist, right? ...

"We're like, ‘No, we'll figure it out.' It's just a common ground that we have to come to because we want to rest up for the next battle and he wants to prepare us for the next battle. We know we have to practice, and every time we go into practice, we're going at 100 percent. I said ‘Chill,' OK, that's fine. Let me clarify. When I said ‘Chill,' I didn't mean like I just chill at home every single day and don't go to the gym at all. In this league, you can't do that and be successful, I think we all know that. ... I was tired, I was happy we won, I used a happy word."

That clarifies, I suppose, although "chill" still seems like the wrong choice of words. It's not necessarily damning -- Thursday, Bethlehem Shoals nicely explained how "work" and "chill" can be states of mind rather than actions -- but it's still a choice of words that's just asking for criticism. By now, Bosh should know that everything he and his teammates say -- especially when it relates to effort and/or arrogance -- will be used as a cudgel to prove they're only champions on paper, not in their hearts and souls, where it matters.

It's yet another example of how the Heat sit under a media microscope the likes of which we've never seen. Every quote, look, and hand-signal will be analyzed to death. Their best hope for normalcy, or at least a minimum of distractions, is to embrace cliches. That might be boring, but it's their best hope of achieving success this season.

This isn't the first time Bosh has 'misspoke'. This team has no work ethic, but just keep making your excuses. At this rate, this team is a one and done at best in the playoffs, which would make me rather happy.

By the way, who is the next scapegoat if Riley fails?

Stupid choice of words by Bosh. When you have to put out an explanation of what you said, it reeks of CYA.

That said, I don't really think lack of effort is the biggest issue with Miami. They may take a half a season to figure out their roles, and to get used to working together. They will improve on that front...they'll have no choice.

But I still think they'll be vulnerable against teams with height and length, two things Miami has very little of. Height and length are factors in the regular season, and of extreme importance in the playoffs.

As far as his comments...please see above.

As far as your assessment..it is really close.

I think it is still a huge adjustments by ALL players to not only change teams, change team philosophy and rolls from alpha-dog...to total team concept.

Not sure what this means but whatever. I think it's a stupid choice of words.

Yeah, they'll get better at playing together. As far as their height and length inferiority, that's not going away.

the words were taken out of context...you do not become one of the top 10-15 players with a bad work ethic...

They will have to adjust and possibly make player moves. And who knows...those players may no be available during the playoffs.

I have no idea what Bosh's work ethic is, as he was sequestered in Toronto for years. Could he have been better if he had worked harder? Who knows?

Different discussion, but I'm not sure if I agree Bosh is a top 10-15 player. I can think of 10 off the top of my head who are definitely better (Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Howard, Gasol, Nash, Garnett, Pierce, Duncan, Durant) so forget top 10, and whole bunch more who are arguably better.

But I wasn't commenting on Bosh's work ethic...I said that, in context or out, he used a stupid choice of words.

Kobe's work ethic has never been questioned.

Oh, I changed the topic? You do it so often I didn't realize

WOW.. TWO coaches shooting off words about the HEAT...and one ain't the HEAT coach!

This is getting good...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Magic coach Stan Van Gundy called Phil Jackson "inappropriate" and "ignorant" for hypothesizing that the Heat soon could change coaches if the ultratalented team doesn't shake its sluggish start.

Jackson drew attention -- and some ire -- after discussing the fallout to the Heat's 8-6 start under coach Erik Spoelstra during an interview Tuesday with ESPN 1000 in Chicago.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson joined "The Waddle & Silvy Show" to discuss the possibility of Pat Riley coaching the Heat; the Lakers' chance of breaking the Bulls' 72-win mark; and the future of the Bulls and Derrick Rose.

"That record, I think, says a lot about coming together with some real talented guys, and not having a base," the Lakers coach said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show."

Jackson went on to say, "The scenario that sits kind of behind the scene, is that eventually these guys that were recruited -- [Chris] Bosh and [LeBron] James -- by [team president] Pat Riley and Micky Arison, the owner, are going to come in and say, 'We feel you [Riley] can do a better job coaching the team. We came here on the hopes that this would work,' and whatever, I don't know," Jackson said. "That's kind of my take on it, is that eventually if things don't straighten out here soon, it could be the Van Gundy thing all over again."

Jackson's direct analogy to the events that precipitated Van Gundy's departure in Miami during the 2005-06 season particularly irritated the Magic's coach.

"Phil has no idea what the Van Gundy situation was because, even though he coaches in our league, he certainly had no insight or knowledge of that," Van Gundy said Wednesday. "So an analogy he'd make to my situation would be totally useless because he doesn't have any clue what the situation was in that case."

Van Gundy resigned in December 2005 after the Heat went 11-10 through the early stretch of their season. Although he cited personal reasons for resigning, many observers maintain that Van Gundy was forced out by Riley. In the five years since his departure, Van Gundy has insisted repeatedly that the prevailing views of his exit are patently false -- an opinion he reiterated in the wake of Jackson's comments.

"To second-guess another coach and comment on a situation he knows nothing about -- it's inappropriate. And it's also ignorant," Van Gundy said. "I don't mean that commenting on Phil's intelligence. He's obviously a very smart guy. I mean it as ignorant [in that] he doesn't know what that situation was and he doesn't know what the situation is now.

"I don't think, unless their relationship has changed drastically, that [Jackson] and Pat talk on a regular basis. So I doubt he would have any information whatsoever on what's going on in Miami."

Asked about Jackson's assessment of the situation in Miami, Spoelstra had a considerably more light-hearted reply.

"My coaching staff was giving me some grief about it, they got a good chuckle out of it," Spoelstra said. "Everybody has had something to say about us, I can't expect that I would be excluded from that. I'm sure people are saying some stuff about me out there, other than him, too."

Spoelstra even had a chuckle over the comparison to Van Gundy.

Look at your top ten....IF ALL were to be free agents RIGHT NOW: Who would be on everyone's wish list? In this order(give or take): Lebron, Durrant, Wade, Kobe, Howard, Gasol and Bosh....then the rest. You cannot sit there and not say he was not a top ten when MORE teams wanted Wade, Lebron and Bosh more than anyone else during this off season. And this was, according to EVERY SINGLE NBA insider from media to scouts to GMs, the best FA class in the history of the NBA.

I just find it SO funny and strange that how NOW, people think Bosh was/is overrated...when EVERY single team that had a smidget of salary cap space either wanted to sign him or trade for him....

I might as well have! He was every other player!

Then you should "taken your talents" to the T.D. Garden on Legends Way! You could have been a big help to the last Celtics championship because the last one they won, according to a BIG Celtics fan here...He is a very big part in help them win and might have not won it without him.;)

That is part of the reason why I hate him :p
