2009 MLB Playoffs

If a poll were taken, I'd say it should not necessarily cost him his job. If he wants to foul up his personal life, that's his issue. As long as it doesn't get to affecting him as an analyst, then I'm okay with it. It's not like he committed a felony like killing somone, running over someone, or drove drunk.
Yeah but the affair was with someone at ESPN. That's got sexual harrassment written all over it, and this girl definitely isn't playing with a full deck. I'll put money on seeing Phillips on MLB Network next year along side Harold Reynolds.

I think the issue might be proof. I seem to recall Harold's incident was settled quietly without admission of guilt so Harold's career wasn't ruined and MLBN took him. Phillips probably has enough evidence to be found guilty and MLBN probably wouldn't want him.

Maybe, maybe not. But I think Phillips' days at ESPN are numbered. He's not a big enough star, like David Letterman, for a network to defend this type of behavior. ESPN has more baseball analysts than it knows what to do with. They'll drop him like a 3rd catcher.

absolutely. Too many analysts to need Phillips. If it were Gammons, it'd be a different story.

I think I need to go take a shower - I just read all the PDFs in the NY Post report and I feel dirty now. :D

BTW, today is the 34th Anniversary of Carlton Fisk's famous World Series homer against the Reds.

I was 9, and my parents wouldn't let me stay up to watch the end of the game! :(

I was awake at 12:34am and heard the commotion downstairs when Pudge hit the homer. :)

In contrast, I awoke my then 11 year old daughter (who is at best a peripheral fan) out of a sound sleep before Keith Foulke fielded the ground ball on that glorious night in St. Louis five years ago! :D

I'm not surprised. I seem to recall Sabathia pitching on 3 days rest at least once if not more when he was the Brewers pitcher-for-rent in 2008 to help get the Brewers into the playoffs.

The only thing that shocks me about Sabathia is that he isn't in the lineup when he's not pitching because of his bat. ;)
I yearn for the days when you had iron men pitching. Men who could pitch a complete game , before the days of pitch counts and specialists. Maybe managers should take note that there are some players that can work more than 100 pitches. I know it will never happen but I would like to see a relief pitcher be required to face a minimum of three batters before being removed. Make the pitcher deliver the ball to the plate within a prescribed time. Call a ball after three throws to first. Lest we blame the pitcher for all the delays force the batter to stay in the box and be ready to hit. No more raising your hand like a schoolboy asking permission to go to the restroom. Call a strike the second time he steps out when the pitcher is getting set. Like I said, it will never happen, just ramblings from an old man who wants to see action even in baseball.

Great story.

I can only hope to do the same to my future son/daughter someday here in Cleveland. :)

I'm looking for a big game from Cole Hamels tonight.

This kid has "Big Game" written all over him!
