2009-10 Hot Stove Baseball

How about the other Holliday as well !

Holliday struggles in the AL so he's better off staying in the NL. Once he got traded to the cards last season, he had just as good of stats or better in the marquee categories in 63 games with the Cards (13-55-.353) than he did in 93 games in Oakland (11-54-.286).

Is Bay better ?

Sorry Bill,
But the Red Sox REALLY miss Manny's bat in the lineup.
They have missed the consistency since he left.

He was very consistent till he had his pouting episode at the end of his career there.

But Manny is over the hill now. Even if he was still with the Red Sox, they'd still miss his bat..... HE USED TO HAVE.

So they need to go get a consistent bat "Like" the one Manny had ....

Is Albert ready fora new contract ?

I know, he's not going anywhere, or at least it would surprise me greatly.

There's no question that they have missed his bat. He just wasn't worth the headache anymore.

How much will the Yankees feel the loss of Hideki Matsui?

IMO, this could hurt- he was a reliable and dependable hitter for six years.

Also, consider the ballparks- from homer-happy new Yankee Stadium to pitcher-friendly Angel Stadium.

I'll be interested to see how he fares.

All I know is as a Red Sox fan, I'm happy to see Matsui leave the AL East.

It seems like every time he came up in an important spot he produced (same goes for Posada and ESPECIALLY Jeter).

I'm sure if he's missed, the yankees will throw money at him in 2011 to return because I believe Matsui only signed a one year pact with the Angels.

Good to see the Yankees kicked Damon to the curb when Damon and Bore-us left an ultimatum deal on the table to return to the Yanks.

Or they will buy up the next hot bat to come around at the trade deadline or as a FA.

Your statement is correct, Matsui was a reliable and dependable hitter for a number of years. The Yankees will miss him. IMHO they also missed Bobby Abreu, and even though his replacement (Xavier Nady) barely played because of injury, Nick Swisher did just fine, and things turned out pretty well...;)

That said, at this point the Yankees simply cannot afford to keep a full time DH around. The statement about bringing Matusi back in a year is pretty silly. We all wish Hideki the best of luck, but he's not coming back.

There is still a chance to sign Damon (Kick him to the curb? Did someone really just say that? Because they are trying to negotiate less then a four year deal with him? Really?), and if they do he will need to spend some time at DH.

Jorge Posada also needs to spend time at DH, as there is a chance their stud catching prospect, Jesus Montero (the guy they would NOT give up in the Granderson deal) will make it to the majors by the second half of the year, and Posada needs to catch less anyway.

You also never know if someone gets nicked during the season and you need to play him at DH occasionally, so in truth the team does not need a full time DH. And while I loved Matsui and he definitely came through for us this season, he's also spent a lot of time in the DL the last few years.

Good luck Hideki!

Yanks not done yet:

The New York Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney.

In addition, the Braves are sending right-hander Boone Logan to the Yankees, sources said.

Vazquez, with a 15-10 record, ranked second in the major leagues last season with 238 strikeouts and sixth in ERA at 2.87. This is his second time around with the Yankees, having pitched in New York in 2004, when he went 14-10 with a 4.91 ERA.

Ok, so let me get this straight. The '10 Yankee rotation will be:

Sabathia
Burnett
Vazquez
Chamberlain
Pettitte

:eek::eek::eek:

What's the point in even playing the 162 game schedule? Might as well fast forward to October/November 2010.

The Yankee rotation always looks great in December. The only problem is, sometimes in August...not so much.

Gonna miss Melky, but he's no Curtis Granderson.

Hughes should start and Joba to set up. Vazquez is an enigma, never seems to win as many as he should but with Yanks offense he better. I'm a Red sox fan and all this Sox and Yanks making deals and spending more money is crazy. i hate the idea of salary caps in any sport but it's nuts for teams to have so little money to spend. That said, "PLAY BALL"

Yanks are far from done, they waited till the last minute last year to get Tex.
Has anyone noticed that Bay and Holiday are STILL out there.
Would not surprise me at all if the yanks went out and outbid for one of them.

Sport DEFINITELY need a Salary Cap, a HARD ONE at that.

Yanks just paid more than some teams did all year on a Luxury Tax for being over the soft cap. 25 Million or something like that.

I wonder if the Mets are going to do anything. Typical Mets, though. They talk a big game and yet they have signed nobody. No Roy Halliday, no John Lackey, no Javier Vasquez, nobody. When are the Mets going to sign some players because all I know is that the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies all got better and the Mets are on the sidelines. It just never ends.
