Not that I want them to or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox didn't starting shopping Beckett for a bat.
They were also looking into the Japanese pitcher.
Much cheaper than the guy was originally hoping for.

Lackey agrees to 5 year deal with Red Sox.
Lester/Beckett/Lackey/Buchholz/Dice-K/Wakefield....................OH MY!!!! :up
Are you kidding?? Halladay will dominate the NL. Just look at his success in the AL East over the years....I think the Phillies are making a HUGE mistake.
IMHO, Halladay is not worth the gamble.

Both pitchers will command huge multi-year deals. If I'm an owner looking to make the investment, I'll choose the one with the more proven track record and a history of better durability....Halladay obviously has the longer track record, but Cliffy worked out for them just fine last year and is younger. Why go through with what appears to be a swap of the two pitchers?
Opening Day, 2009: Becket/Dice-K/Lester/Smoltz/Buckholtz/Masterson/Byrd/Wakefield. But within two months, they were scrounging around for a starter or two to fill out the rotation.Lackey agrees to 5 year deal with Red Sox.

I think they're more likely to move Papelbon. Not that I want them to or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox didn't starting shopping Beckett for a bat.

bringing in Lackey opens the door to trade Bucholtz and a prospect to SD for Gonzalez
Things are really heating up in the Hot Stove today, Jimbo!
Not for the Reds.
