2008 Pennant Races

Cody Ransom just hit his 2nd HR of the night . Yankees now up, 13-4 and Fenway is starting to resemble the "Fog Bowl" Eagles-Bears playoff game.

Thank GAWD the Yankees/Sox game is meaningless.

THIS is why I was relieved when Boston clinched that playoff spot on Tuesday- avoiding a frightening scenario.

Mets lose, 6-1, so the Phillies magic number to clinch the NL East is down to 1. But more importantly, if the Brewers hang on to win their game, the Mets will be 1 game behind in the wildcard with only two games left.

Terrible, terrible game. Very depressing. I hate to say it but I don't think the Mets are going to make it.

The only saving grace is that Santana may pitch tomorrow. If that happens, the Brewers, I believe, are starting Ben Sheets who's had shoulder trouble. All you do is wish that Santana throws a gem and the Brew Crew get roughed up. Then Sunday comes, and you take your chances.

If the Mets get eliminated, would Mets82's meltdown be worse than the one Bill had after Manny turned into a lockerroom cancer?

I don't think so. I would be depressed and angry. Bill had a right to be pissed by Manny's actions. The only thing was they got rid of him during the year and they've played better w/o him. The Sox are a good team. Not to sound like bitter grapes, even though, people will take it like that, but the Mets bullpen has been more like Mets bull!@#. It's stunk all year. If we had a decent enough bullpen we would've been ok this year. I think our bullpen has blown something like 30 games. Imagine 30 games. If that was trimmed in half we would be in excellent shape. DAMN BULLPEN!!! They make me sick. I wouldn't even put them on the damn bus. Let them hitch. Actually, that's wrong. If the bullpen guys can't figure out a way to get an out, how the hell could they figure out a way to get home.

I have a hypothetical strategic question for you guys:

Scenario: after Saturday's games the Brews are 1 game ahead of the Mets for the wildcard.

Do the Brewers:

A) Go for the jugular and pitch Sabathia AGAIN on 3 days rest

OR

B) Take their chances without Sabathia and hope either they win or the Mets lose

I admit, it's a TOUGH CALL, but I vote for B. Here's why:

1. Worst case scenario (for the Brewers): you lose and the Mets win forcing a one game playoff. BUT you have C.C. on normal rest pitching the sudden death playoff for you.

2. Best case scenario: either you win or the Mets lose AND you have your ace, a now well rested C.C. Sabathia, ready for game 1 of the NLDS vs. the Phillies.

What do you guys think?

I agree with you on choice B, Billy.

The Brewers wouldn't want to risk sending one of their lower-level pitchers against Philadelphia's lumber-loaded lineup.

(BTW, can we all agree that Ryan Howard is the N.L. MVP- His homer and RBI totals are ridiculous.

Oh, and Brad Lidge has STILL not blown a save!)

I know it can't happen (because Santana is pitching tomorrow), but wouldn't it be awesome if it was Sabathia vs. Santana in a winner-take-all one game playoff Monday night?

Royal beat the Twins, 8-1. White Sox are losing, 11-7 Indians batting in the top of the 8th.
