2008-09 MLB Hot Stove

I've been listening to WFAN and Jon Heyman and it seems like the Mets will get K-Rod. 3yrs. 37 million dollars which will probably be announced tomorrow.
ESPN is reporting it too.

ESPN - GM: CC Sabathia says he would like to be on Los Angeles Dodgers

I said all along there is two things that may influence Sabathia's destination come contract time:

1) The possibility of playing close to home (Cali)
2) The possibility to be able to swing the bat on an NL team.

The Yankees' six-year, $140 million offer to Sabathia has been on the table now for nearly four weeks. Not only has Sabathia not said yes, he has been sending messages to the three interested West Coast teams -- the Dodgers, Giants and Angels -- that he would like to play in California.

This all makes perfect sense now.......

Sorry to say, the hitting thing is over blown, if you think he'll hit .200 + over the course of the year, good luck.

Praise Minaya yet again . . . first Santana, now K-Rod . . . God I love the Mets have decided to become a "Spanish" ethnicity team . . . now let's lock up Fuentes for setup role and let's get back to Citizens Bank Park!

Hasn't the move to the bullpen been easier on Wood's arm and his tendency for injuries?

From a mid-market standpoint, this might make sense for us. Of the closers we're looking at, Wood's considerable younger than Trevor Hoffman and considerably cheaper than K-Rod.

We need help for the bullpen, and Wood had 34 saves last year. Wood also has a cannon for an arm; as in 84 K in 66 innings cannon.

I think it's a good move for the Indians, I wish the Tigers would have been looking at him.

How do you feel about Wood being the closer for your Indians ?
I think your right about injuries, I think the change to closer has helped him, as long as they don't OVER use him.

Jimbo

I think KCK's head exploded.

Why? We knew he was a goner anyway. This is NOT news. What is news is that he got nowhere near what he was boastfully asking for before the season ended. If anything, this may be a watermark that future acquisitions by teams this week will not be as lucrative.

KRod is great. I wish him the best. But watch him slowly begin to wear down now. The Angels parted ways with him at the perfect time!

I agree. The Angels parted with K-Rod at the right time. That guy drove me to drink more often in the 9th inning than any pitcher the Angels have ever had. I'm sorry and don't mean to blow any wind from teh sails of excited Mets fans, but I think most of us out here in Anaheim think the untold story of K-Rod in 2008 was that the 8 guys on the field around him played a much larger role in his historic season than his ever-declining skills.

Arter Moreno is flying into Vegas tonight. He has been in pretty deep talks with Scott Boras......could the next couple of days give reason to light up the Halo????

FIREBIRD81,

You may not remember this, but in the '08 MLB thread more than once I said that we had developed a new catagory for KRod..."S S" which stands for "SCARY SAVES"!!!!:eek:

I like that! It really was bitter sweet night after night to watch Frankie load the bases and then the fielders make the outs, only to hear the announcer say " Frankie does it again!"....he sure did all right!

Great, now I'm worried about K-Rod. The only thing I could say is that he's better than what we had this past year.

Mets82 RELAX RELAX RELAX . . .

Brad Lidge and K-Rod has exactly the same walk ratio i recent years and we know what Lidge did for the Phillies :(

That's true but it's just like the Mets to get a guy and then he breaks down. Remember Wagner was supposed to be everything Looper and Benetiz weren't. How did that turn out? Remember Sambrano was suppose to be great and what happened?

I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if something happens to K-Rod, God forbid. I mean we need more than just K-Rod.

Manny Ramirez Rumors: Tuesday

By Tim Dierkes [December 9 at 11:20pm CST]
11:20pm: Yahoo's Tim Brown talked to roughly half the teams in baseball, and could not identify a suitor for Manny aside from the Dodgers.
8:26pm: Tony Reagins said the Angels signing Manny is "not a likely scenario."
1:30pm: Manny apparently still seeks the same six-year type deal. Rosenthal says Colletti told Boras he'll need to talk to Frank McCourt before further conversations can occur.
11:25am: [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3757030&type=blogEntry"]ESPN.com- Phils, Mets, Cubs going after Ibanez[/ame] "Scott Boras met with the Dodgers late Monday might to discuss the return of Manny Ramirez." While Manny is still open to signing with the Dodgers, they have not put their two-year, $45MM offer back on the table.

Pirates Rumors: McLouth, Maholm, Eckstein

By Tim Dierkes [December 9 at 11:28pm CST]
Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette offers up the latest information on the Pirates.
  • The Pirates have initiated extension talks with Nate McLouth, Ryan Doumit, and Paul Maholm. The Braves inquired on McLouth and Maholm, but the Pirates' demands were "way high" according to an Atlanta official. Kovacevic mentions Jordan Schafer as someone who could be offered.
  • The Pirates had conversations with David Eckstein's agent, but not negotiations. The Bucs would probably have to trade a middle infielder for it to make sense. They never made a formal offer to Mark Loretta, who signed with the Dodgers today.
  • The Jack Wilson market is tepid - the Twins have mild interest, the Dodgers have moved on to Rafael Furcal.
  • While the Pirates have gotten inquiries on John Grabow, teams apparently want to look at free agent options first.
