Comcast Still King
Lets not forget that Comcast is in a completely different league... what is it, 1000+ HD channels?

Remember to include all the Multi-Sports channel pack HD channels that are usually blacked out where I live. lol
Not 100% accurate - comcast claim is about over 1000 HD choices, not channels.Lets not forget that Comcast is in a completely different league... what is it, 1000+ HD channels?
dangue, it's even worse: At least Comcast always claimed to have 1000 choices. Comcast never called a HD VOD choice a channel.Setting aside the fact that not many people have 922s, I'm not sure how HD VOD titles can be considered a "national HD channels". Dish is taking this page straight out of the Cable Companies' playbook and it's not a good thing.
Actually Directv claims they have the MOST HD which they DONT. Both companies lie and deaves and thatll never change but for D* to say they have more HD than E* is as bold of a lie as you can tell.I know they all do it, But which one looks more like a flat out lie.
Anyone who can do simple math, can tell adding 160 +8 doesn't = 200.
And you all need to get your facts straight about me, I am no fan of D* or E*.
I'm a fan of people getting the facts without the sugercoating.
Fact is D* claims they Have 130 HD channels , and they do.
Yes Claiming future 200 channels is bold, for sure, But by no means far fetched.
E* claims they have cerrently have 200 and they don't.
I even posted E* channel count when they claimed 160.
That count had 15 VOD HD,and Alternate HD channels just to get that count.
It wasn't easy to get 160 HD channels.
Yep , One reason I signed a contract with D*.
So E* 160 channel count goes to 200 ,by adding what? 8 channels?
Just like last time when it went from 130-160 by adding 8 channels.
Keep up the Bad Work Charlie
They have over 200 channels that can show HD programming. A lot are PPV, VOD, and Alternate Sports channels but they do have them. Dish is not lying. Even when you get rid of those channels Dish still has the most HD everyday channels. They also keep adding channels when they can to make people happy. I'm not sure why anyone is complaining, other than doing it just for the sake of complaining. People have always been great at doing that on here.

what if we look at the uplink report? are there channels there that aren't 'turned on' yet that they might be counting?
I will do a count on my receiver tonight and see what I get.
Perhaps people are upset because the claim is misleading? VOD "Channels" aren't national channels. They're additonal viewing options, but shouldn't be part of any national channel count.
I don't think people are just mad at Dish on this, they're mad at all the providers for offering inflated numbers. Dish is just the most recent ridiculous example.
On this website, we'll all very well informed, so it's not a big deal. But this could seriously impact the choice of someone who is a satellite newbie and doesn't know fact from fiction. In this, i think the company is being short sighted. A customer that feels misled is more likely to bail ASAP than to stick around. Then again, maybe they'd never have gotten the customer in the first place without the "200 national HD channels" claim.

Hemi already counted them:

Not even close to the 200 channels. IMO, VOD doesn't count.
At least Dish is much closer to the actual count. Excluding PPV, 101, local and RSN's, Dish has 103 somewhat actual HD channels. Direct only has 75. This isn't the war zone, but the facts are in the link below.
Official AVS National HD Channel Lineups - Cable/DBS/Fiber/IPTV - Updated 4/3/10! - AVS Forum
Including RSN's and 101 channels but excluding PPV, I don't think there are 200 HD channels. Even with locals I bet the count would be in the 180's.
I second your comments and would have liked to make those points as well as you did.
But the end game is: which provider has more of the channels you want? Even after the D* announcement today, I would be hard-pressed (outside of YES, MSG-HD and Gol-TV) to think of a channel D* will be offering that I want or don't have on Dish. Premium movies, maybe. Full-time RSNs, OK. But IIRC their initial list of new releases is still missing BBCA-HD, FSC-HD, Style-HD, E!-HD, HLN-HD, TCM-HD, HistInt-HD and probably some others. So for me Dish is still better. For others, I'm sure, D* will be, but I try to pick my battles and calling Dish and the others out on their disingenuous statements is not one I want to fight.
