1000.4 Dish Eastern Arc Signal Strengths

Hi. This is a great site.

I just installed a 1000.4 Turbo HD dish, on the Eastern Arc (61.5, 72.7, 77) in Toronto Ontario.

We are due north of Buffalo NY.

Can anyone out there give me an idea of what the signal strengths should be?

When we do a System Information check, all 3 sats come in green and OK.

But when we check signal strengths on various transponders of the three satellites, the numbers are in the 20's, 30's, and 40's.

I've done a zillion installs for 10 years, and this is my first Eastern Arc attempt.

We spent 3 hours tweaking 72.7 first, then adjusting the skew to bring in 61.5.

I then used the dithering bolts to adjust the elevation and azimuth, and this is the best I could come up with.

It is a very picky dish for adjusting and aligning.

I am about 100 miles north of you and did not get great results with the 1000.4 EA dish. The maximum reading I could get on the 61.5 TP 13 was 10. Please let me know what reading you got for that TP.
I did get some TPs to read as high as 60. 77 was weak but there is not much on that anyway. Dish did change their signal meter and channels will come in if you are over a reading of 10. I am a little disappointed with this dish as well. As you probably know separate dishes work better than these combo dishes especially in fringe areas. I think a 1000+ dish may work a bit better but don't have one to try.

The footprints were changed when Dish purchased the satellite several years ago...not recently.
 
I am using the Eastern Arc dish 1000.4 out in the west coast in Los Angeles. The signal strength are as follows.
72.7 TP 6 (Weakest) about 28 on Cloudy Day and 29-30 Max at best
72.7 TP 18 (second weakest) about 30
72.7 TP 16 (Strongest) about 37
61.5 comes in at 45's at lowest on most TP's and upto 55's on others
77 is at about 28-32 on most TP's

I had the eastern arc on 1000.2 earlier as the installer didn't know what he was doing. Out here on the west coast they don't install the EA arch for obvious reasons. Signal levels on the 1000.2 was in the 15's on TP6 (72.7) and would go out on a cloudy day. the 1000.4 is much stable.

My observances are that if I peak 72.7 to 40's, I totally loose 61.5 where the Local DMA's are. When 61.5 starts to come in, 72.7 signals have already reached on its 30's. I didn't bother to tweak anything on 77 but it came in at 30's as well.

As for the 1000+'s, I don't think you can interchange the EA 1000.4 LNB's on those dishes. you would need an Eastern Arc repoint kit which would attach to the 1000+'s which essentially makes them the 1000.5 EA Kit. Would like if someone can confirm this. I have an extra 1000+ western setup and I didn't think I could swap the EA lnb on the 1000+

I'm near Washington DC and peak 72.7 using TP 21 which seems the strongest for most locations (based on the excel).

I too used the skew to bring in 61.5 - - - but used TP 29 (again the strongest based on the excel).

77 seems to be the hardest - - - but I used TP 21 for 77.

Since 72.7 is closest to the vertical centerline of the dish it is most important (as you noted) then 61.5 - - - because it is furthest from the vertical centerline of the dish - - - then 77
 
I claim 72.7 is indeed centered on the dish pan, and skew is irrelevant for that one location. You use the skew adjustment to get 61.5, at which time 77 will be also be done since 72.7 (for az el) and 61.5 (for skew) are both peaked.

I meant that question for 46FD04 since he is in Toronto. I know it won't reach California
 
Back at this again. I have tried to use a 26X24 " oval dish with Legacy LNBF to try to get 61.5 spotbeam TP 13 . Getting max reading on STB of 10. TP 12 is 75 TP14 is 67 TP21 is 78. I thought this dish would improve spotbeam reception but still no go. Is there something funny about this spotbeam??

Signal strength indicates it isn't aimed at Canada.

I'm near you to the east, let's say somewhere in the province of Quebec. I get 45-50 avg on 72.7W, 40-45 avg on 61.5W and 0-10 avg on 77W when it's clear. In fact, I was never able to get the check switch to confirm 77W. For the levels, I learned that they seem low but it's no proplem; most of the channels are on 72.7W and even when it rains hard, there's no problem.

Please check Transponder 13 on 61.5 and let me know what level you are at. I am trying to get the locals out of Buffalo and they are on 61.5. Thanks again
