Who's to blame for these increasing tv costs?

That's because, until recently, there wasn't any real choice. You had a handful of large bundles to choose from no matter which provider you chose, or nothing at all. Now with the advent of OTT and skinnier bundles, more choice will lead to more control by the consumers. I for one am glad I cut my TV bill in half with the Flex Pack and stopped feeding the biggest pigs.
:amen Brother. I have loved having the Flex pack on two of my accounts. I never have to pay for sports again that I never watched in the first place. That alone would chap my ass ever year around Price hike time. My dad will be able to add espn and other action pack channels ,just when he wants to watch an important game and then drop it when he doesn't need it . Only pay for what you use , when you use it. I love it.:clapping

Who is to blame? We, the consumer... For complaining, but yet, continuing to pay.
The only thing that can lower price is for either MORE competition (which is not going to happen as more and more companies merge) ..or.. people begin to cut the cable for another alternative like streaming services (which they have been doing and companies respond, like Dish's Flex pack).. But enjoy the 'lower' prices of streaming while you can because those prices will increase and you'll be right back where you are now.

So true. This is why people looking to save money could, if at all possible, use several different reception methods for TV.. such as OTA + Sling, OTA + low-end Dish or Directv package. Or even OTA + Netflix + HBO Go. Add in a streaming sports package when in season.

If Dish came out with some sort of customer loyalty program where the longer you stay with them the more discounts you get off your bill, automatic option to upgrade for no cost to the next Hopper if desired. This way they wouldn't have people switching so much. If they won't eliminate the monthly receiver costs , whole home dvr fee etc.... this could be one option to retain customers.

I wish a lot of companies would do this kinda thing for current customers. So many of them use the "retention" idea though. Basically most people won't complain, so they just take care of the ones who threaten to leave

I saw that DirecTV Now is selling their top package at a loss for $35/month for new customers.... over 100 channels. that's not a deal that comes around very often... might be worth checking out for people looking for a deal... i know this is the Dish forum but this deal blows Sling's offer out of the water!

I think it's only good for 3 months though. THEN look at what the cost is.
