The subtitle
Dawn of Justice attached to
Batman v. Superman suggests that we’ll see multiple members of The Justice League when Zack Snyder’s blockbuster reaches theaters in 2016. We know that Wonder Woman is a big part of the mix. And we have been hearing rumors about Aquaman’s inclusion. Get ready to hear some more. The reliable fan site
Batman-On-Film says that Aquaman "is indeed in the film" and recently conducted "some sort of film test on a water set." The site notes that Aquaman "has a very small role" in Zack Snyder’s
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which likely means he is a cameo tease setting up
that Justice League movie (which Snyder
plans to direct, even though it has no release date at the moment). What was the rumor we heard about Aquaman back in the day? The prevalent thought was that the World Engine from
Man of Steel might have caused enough of a ruckus to disturb Aquaman’s underwater kingdom. Given the amount of destruction it caused, it’s easy to understand why that might be the case.Imagine a scene where Aquaman emerges from the depths of the Indian Ocean to ask Kal-El (Henry Cavill), "Uh, dude? Is there a reason that you had to unleash holy hell in my waters? And what exactly is a ‘World Engine’ anyway?"
The reveal of an Aquaman cameo is exciting – if slightly anticipated. We know that a Justice League movie lies on the horizon (the distant horizon, but still, the horizon), and so we’ll have to start meeting these characters in time.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is rumored to have Cyborg in its ensemble, as well, played by
Ray Fisher. We know that Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) is on tap as the villain, and the supporting cast from
Man of Steel should all be back. Who, though, will play Aquaman… even if it’s just a brief cameo meant to set up a longer play? Will it be Jason Momoa, who has been
attached to the role for a long while? Could Aquaman be the part that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been teasing this whole time? Or will it be some other actor altogether? We have a long way to go before
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters. Hopefully we don’t have to wait quite that long to get details on DC’s latest cinematic superstar.
