For your "test 2"
Tiernan TDR6 v4 IRD:
11966 eb/n0 is 13.62
11842 eb/no is 14.00

Can't get any more peak out of it.
 
Again from Saltillo, México, a friend had to move the dish a bit to the east to peak the signals at:
transponder 11966 calidad 45
transponder 11842 calidad 48

Before doing that he had a Q of 40 (11966) and 42 (11842).

2nd test;
peaked for 11966, reads Q67
changing to 11842, reads Q70
If I move the antenna 0.2 degrees east at peak I get Q72 on 11842
Conditions here may be a factor; heavy overcast and light rain/fog.
Tested with the same 33" reflector as before (see .sig file below).
Channels on 11842 looking good!

Is there a technical reason why some TP's off Galaxy 19 are "off focus"? Unless there's 2 sats at the same position or multiple spot beams, how could there be such a variance? Does the aim of the uplink dish affect the downlink as well (i.e. is a satellite like a mirror that passively reflects whatever signals are beamed to it?).

I set up (2) 90cm dishes for a friend a couple of years ago and lately he's complained about losing a few channels on G-19 [97W] to unwatchable quality so I went over last week to fine tune the dish and had no luck locking a strong signal, the QS was no better than about 36% on TP's that usually have 80+%.

I left there with no success. I came home and checked my own dish for QS and it was good. It's been frustrating not knowing if the signals were being tweaked at that time or what. People with fixed dishes don't have the advantage to remotely tweak their dish like us who have motorized units. So now I don't know if I should wait to try tuning his dish again, meanwhile he is limited to just a few channels on G-19. Oh well :eek:

Great observation Pwrsurge. This is the exact issue that we are attempting to address with this thread of signal reports. Initial testing suggested adjacent satellite interference, but other testing with spectrum analyzers and SNR readings indicate that the adjacent satellite interference is minimal on our 90cm test rig.

Anyone else able to provide input on adjacent satellite interference with these transponders?
 
Location is SE Michigan and dish is a Winegard 2076 ( 76 cm ).

That's a fascinating topic. I once thought a slightly off-azimuth signal was coming from the adjacent bird parked next to it. As of late, I think the actual cause is with the bird's antenna array. This phenomenon might be an issue or might be by design. Are there any spacecraft RF engineers out there?

Transponder 6 (11842) will stay active and transponder 13 (11960) will not be used at this time.

Your reports and comparisons were very helpful as the transponders were adjusted and peaked.
