You CAN get NFL Redzone without Sunday Ticket

I am currently getting RZ for free, another 2 years of free HD, and $10 off my bill for a year just for the heck of it

Call and talked to a regular CSR and then retention and they said no go. The retention rep did say if it was to become available I would be able to get it. Maybe I will recall soon.

Still no dice on the RZ but got Sunday Ticket and To-Go for $159 and no DVR fees for a year so I guess I am happy, canceled the ticket last week so this was a better price then before, hope everyone has a great day of football.

Weird... I've tried several times now to get it and most of the time I get CSRs who say they don't think it can be done. This latest time I got one who said she knew it could be done last year, but this year it's not in the system. (She also mentioned she'd gotten "a number" of calls recently trying to get it...) When I mentioned a friend of mine (that's you guys) was able to get it this year, she was very surprised and her only thought was maybe it was an autorenew from last year. She dug around for me but wasn't able to find any way to get it as a stand alone. She also wondered out loud if it would still be turned on next week when it wasn't free for everyone.

I guess I can keep trying CSR roulette, although I wonder if I'm getting notes put on my account each time that's making it harder and harder to get anywhere with it.

Does anyone who's gotten it has any suggestions as to what they said or who they talked to that got it working?

Looks like the key might be getting into the retention department...

I decided to give it one more shot today and spent about 15 minutes on the phone with the "front line" customer service. The CSR read (“to herself”out loud over the phone) their marketing stuff about red zone which clearly said if someone asks for it separate to tell them it can only be sold as part of Sunday ticket. Finally she said there’s nothing she can do, but she’s going to put the notes on my account and transfer me to the retention department because “they have more latitude as to what they’re allowed to do” for customers.

They connected me up with a CSR in retention who’s first comment was “Wow. You’ve been a customer since 1997. We appreciate that kind of loyalty, we can work something out for sure. [type type type] Yeah, okay, so I can offer you two things. Either a half price on Sunday Ticket, or I can give you Red Zone channel for free.”

Yay.

Glad you got a good deal. It's always best to say "cancel" at the 1st DTV phone auto-menu, then repeat it at the 2nd menu ("Cancel"). That will route you call to Retentions.

And as a little secret, since I dont work at D* customer service no more, retention group is the most powerful group, if you are quoted as a loyal customer, you are going to get some pretty deals out there.

There is a series of requirements .you must be with directv for at least a year and be in good standing only the reps know what that means ,its embeded on your account and you must not have nfl sunday ticket on the account.finally make sure you mention that some other provider offers it and your thinkin about switchin for tha reason.not everyone qualifies

Wow. Just called in and they said they couldn't give me Redzone standalone since the season had already started, but they gave me Sunday Ticket w/ Redzone channel free for the season. Still have a year left on my contract but have the Premier package, if that has any impact.

I got the RZ channel as a standalone, but I probably watched it only 2 of the weeks so far for a total of about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the input, I called Directv and I had to change my dish setting from Slimline five to three, not sure why but it worked :)

I called today, no arguments or threatening to leave. I was just asking if they had it (I hinted that Dish did). They offered Red Zone channel for free to me.

I called yesterday and was offered the Red Zone for free too, I'm more interested in the ST which seems like they are willing to go half price $99, and $150 on the big package. I haven't heard or read elsewhere of any better deals then this being offered....yet.

Direct told me that Redzone is only available if you get ST so we hear different things from different people but the ST page on Direct says its only available with ST......
Does DIRECTV Offer the RED ZONE CHANNEL®?.

The original RED ZONE CHANNEL® is available from DIRECTV as part of NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX.

While other providers are now offering The RED ZONE CHANNEL® from The NFL Network, they will not be able to offer coverage of all NFL games in their entirety. The RED ZONE CHANNEL® from the NFL Network will only show highlights of games and will only be available in select programming packages.

DIRECTV is the only place to enjoy NFL SUNDAY TICKET and watch your favorite NFL team, no matter where you live. And only DIRECTV can give you great features such as live streaming to your cell phone or computer.

For more information or to order NFL SUNDAY TICKET, visit our web site at directv.com/nfl.

^that is just marketing BS. if you call and ask for it, you'll get it although you might have to try a couple of times

With the AMC debacle going on with Dish I am strongly looking at jumping to Direct, but the one thing holding me back is the lack of RZ unless you buy the Sunday Ticket which I don't want.

I read through this thread and it looks like maybe I could sweet talk them into giving me RZ if I jump ship, but I was confused by the comments stating that RZ on Direct isn't the same as RZ on Dish. How are they different? On Dish they fly around the league and show live games where scoring is about to happen and also show replays of scoring plays from other games they couldn't flip to in time. The channel goes on the air right at game time and goes off when the last afternoon game is over. Scott Hanson is the host. What does Direct's RZ have/do?
