Still debating picking this one up. Probably won't just because I don't play this game as much as I used to. Before I had kids this was a mainstay on weekends with my friends, but now with 3 kids sleeping in an open house like mine has basically forced us to the quieter Jackbox Party Pack. Also the additional $20 fee for that converter isn't making it anymore appealing either.

Gamestop is going to stop selling console bundles that include digital copies of games.

This seems like a terrible idea to me. They were able to work out a special deal for Madden to get a physical copy in their bundle when everyone else got digital but that doesn't mean they will always be able to work that out.

I can see them not having access to bundles that other retailers have because of this stubbornness. They say they will make third party bundles with physical discs themselves if they don't get their way but if they cost more than the standard bundle who is going to be interested?

Not only that but if pricing is equal I prefer digital. It's 2015. I don't need a stack of game cases in my house and I don't want to physically find the right disc and put it in every time I want to switch games. Digital is so much more convenient. My 360/PS3 collection of game cases was a nightmare and I'm not going back to that.

The fact is that the used game business isn't going to last forever. Gamestop is trying to hold on to it but more people are switching to digital every year. They are becoming irrelevant and they know it.

True, physical isn't going to last forever, but it's not going away tomorrow, and the fact is that a LARGE amount of money for GS comes from used game sales, so if they sell bundles without physical copies, there's no possible return on that sale. I'm with you that this is a totally self-serving business decision, but while digital is definitely more convenient there still is that undeniable advantage of physical where you can trade in and get some money back to put money towards other games. And as was pointed out by Ubisoft a while back, digital games rarely have sales while inventory demands constantly push prices lower on physical releases. You can't be mad at GS for wanting to keep their big moneymaker healthy. It may be sort of crappy for the consumer, but it's pretty damn obvious that game publishers and sellers are NOT looking out for consumers anyways.

The thing is that it won't affect the consumer that much. People like me, who prefer digital, will just buy our bundles from Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, or any other retailer not named Gamestop.

This seems really short sighted to me. People typically buy 1 console bundle per generation. Gamestop switching to physical bundles only means they are making sure 1 game over the entire generation of games a person buys is physical instead of digital. That person will buy every other game the way they want to whether its digital, retail, or used. How much impact can this possibly make in the digital to retail ratio for game purchases?

I agree that physical pricing tends to drop faster but Sony and Microsoft are both getting better about digital sales. The Deals with Gold sales Microsoft runs every week sometimes offer pretty good stuff.

If the console producers dont' want to work with GS then GS can cut their own deals with the publishers directly to provide physical copies.

That's what Gamestop said in the quote from this article. I'm not sure how that would work though. The way the current bundles work Microsoft/Sony work out a deal with the publisher to buy the game in bulk at a discount or pay for the copies they are bundling in through a marketing deal. The publishers aren't giving away the game for free. Microsoft is just eating the cost (at a reduced rate) to try to move more consoles.

How is it going to work for Gamestop? They are going to have to buy the consoles from Microsoft/Sony and then try to work out a deal with the publisher where they get the games cheap enough that they won't lose money on the sale. Gamestop won't be willing to eat the cost as much as Sony/Microsoft because they don't get a license fee from every game a person buys to play on that system for the next several years. At the same time publishers aren't going to be willing to practically give copies of their game away just so Gamestop will have more discs to sell used in the future, especially because publishers make $0 off used game sales.

I'm just skeptical that Gamestop will be able to offer the same bundles at the same price as everyone else if they have to make the bundle themselves. My guess is that it will cost more and they will try to include other accessories to make the price not look as bad.

I thought some of the details in this article were pretty interesting even though I've never played Metal Gear. The article does drag out too long and splitting it into 3 pages is dumb, still I'm impressed with some of the details they thought to put into MGSV even though most people may never see them.

I guess you have a cassette player and you find various audio recordings throughout the game. One tape is of a person loudly pooping. If you play it when you are hiding in a bathroom enemy soldiers won't search that area. Another tape says "enemy eliminated" and if you play it near enemy soldiers there is a chance that they will stop looking for you.

Even though I would rather play other games right now I do want to check out MGSV when there aren't so many high profile games coming out and the price drops just to see all the crazy things you can do in that world.

Life is Strange: Episode 5 is apparently coming out October 20th.

I've been wanting to delve into this game but I refuse to until it gets down to 50% off. Hopefully they'll mark the season pass down with this release, as opposed to the crap they pulled last week where just episode 1 was 50% off and the rest was only 20% off.
