Will I need New dish?

I currently have a Hopper with sling and a wireless Joey all installed in 2014. Im upgrading to the Hopper 3 this week and would like to know if I will need/get a new dish before the installer arrives.

I currently have a solo node installed on the outside of my house and think that will need to be replaced with a solo hub and I do have RG6 cable (not sure if its rated for 3000ohms). All I can see on my current dish is that it says "DP Plus" on the LNB. I believe its Eastern Arc as Im in North East Ohio using sats 77,72 and 61.5. with a DPP 1k.4 switch.

IIRC, the system you currently have will work IF you insert a DPH42 Hybrid switch into the system.

Installers usually just replace the dish with the appropriate hardware.

If you can get the installer to agree, I suggest getting the DPH42 switch instead of a dish swap. The new dish would be a 1000.2 with a hybrid LNB that only receives the eastern arc 61.5 and 72.7. The dish you have is a 1000.4 that receives 61.5, 72.7, and 77. The 77 sat has many duplicates of the 61.5 and 72.7 channels, usually in SD. It's not unusual that we'll see a drop from HD to SD in severe storms with our 1000.4 on the eastern arc, but not a complete rain fade like we would if we didn't have the 77 sat. You'll still need the node/hub swap though.

Make it clear to the installer that you are using channels off of 77. That should give him enough direction to install the 42 switch.

Thank you Guys for all the great advice. And I really don’t know a lot about this stuff so is it worth it to try to have the installer replace my LNB with the same one only newer ( still keeping the 77) Not sure if this stuff goes bad but it’s all 6 yrs old.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I had an LNB that was over 10 years old.

Good luck finding an installer with a 1000.4 Eastern Arc LNBF in a market that doesn't require the 77

I'm watching TV right now using an eastern arc 1000.4 LNB that's been in constant use since 2010. I also have a couple of spares for both arcs, "just in case"...

And just for my own piece of mind. Im getting the hopper 3 and 2 wireless Joeys. So the installer would run the lines from my current sat to the dph42 then he could go straight to the Hopper using my existing cable run. Is that correct? I read that I only need the hub if I have other wired Joeys.

I don't want to even attempt to tell the installer what to do but if I can get him in and out with our running new stuff that wold be great.

Just let the installer do his job. He wants to get in and out too. He has more installations to do in that day than just yours.

I plan on letting him do his job but I also want to be in informed consumer. Without the advice of you guys here I would just let this guy come in and do what he hast to do never asking any questions and when he left I would probably no longer have that 77 satellite. Plus years ago when the last guy was here he really didn’t know what he was doing as he was new and had to keep calling other installers walk him through the process

While that may be correct, the installer will likely put the Hub in anyway, just to future-proof the system in case you want to add wired Joeys in the future. For example, Hopper Duo installs without any Joey would not require a Hub, either, but the installers still insist on adding the Hub. If anyone follows up to check their work, they would fail Quality Control if the Hub is not there. If you install the system yourself, you can use any method that technically works, but installers have certain standards that they are expected to follow.
