Will EchoStar Carry Al-Jazeera HD?

im the one with a closed mind? talk about hypocrisy.
your the one that wants to ban the channel just because its from the middle east.
its a news channel they report the news they don't make the news. they report good and bad news. something happens they report it. why dont we blame CNN for karry losing and praise fox for bush winning wile were at it, lol.

there is no proof that aljazeera supports terrorism, if there was it wouldn't be carried by dish.

if almanar was going to be launched in america i would understand why people would be upset (its a channel owned by hizballah) although i would support it since we live in a free country and not N.Korea.

if you don't like aljazeera and your not interested in whats going on in that part of the world then don't watch it but don't ban us from watching what can potentiality be a very good channel.

I rest my case. Off topic, faulty, foundationless reasoning, and doesn't understand Geo-politics. And exactly where did I call for the channel to be banned? :flag:

It is kind of funny that certain people believe that opposing freedom of the press makes them patriotic.

There is a lot of TV I don't want to watch. There are a lot of people out there who don't share my views. But I support their right to share their views anyway, and even find if benificial to know what they are saying.

The last time I checked, neither Fox, nor any other US News channel (with maybe the exception of CNN) has chosen to show the beheadings of innocent Americans, the killing of US soldiers, and the Homicide bombings of buses filled with women and children. However I have an "open Mind." If you can come up with an example I'll be happy to concede your point. Be sure to include dates, times and channels. :D

Although I do agree with most of what you have posted in this thread I do not think AJ has televised the beheadings. They do have a fondness for footage of dead Americans though and I totally agree that they have a bias against the west. It makes no difference to me if they mix in shows about other topics as stated in aboali's post about the network's content. If you put a few spoons of sugar into the poison it doesn't make it any easier to swallow for me.

You must be joking! I can probably count on one hand how many people will watch this biased, total waste of bandwith, channel! Hell, why add another useless channel when we have so many now.

So, you watched the channel before or just the clip aired on CNN and Fox?? Is that how you know its bias?
You don't think Fox News is bias or cnn is?
You don't think US History book is non bias?
Or you just don't care about anybody think?

Its on T5 I saw their preview yesterday. That must be satellite provider they were talking about. So don't worry it won't show up. I'd be susprise if a lot of people will start order FTA system because of this. More business for most of us here. :)

Actully their English version of their newspaper was a hit through out Europe. Channel make popular from your favorite news networks.

Here's one fact for this discussion. More Americans trust Fox News (closely followed by CNN) than any other source. However according to the study the percent of Americans who say Fox is their most trusted source is only 11%. Most other countries have one source which over 40% of their populations trust the most. News in America is fractured just as our opinions are. If you are looking to expand into a news market America has to look like a great place to be.

I don't really trust any news channel, especially the local news. Just recently there was a Garden Supply company truck rolled over, local news reported that it was a dog food truck. Truck up loaded with fertilizers and its load shifted got rolled over.

Then my friends got interview and followed by camera crew to local street racing. We all got interviewed with the crew on camera. We only mentions once that a bet happen and fight broke out once over money.
In reality street racing was just all about the sport, money was never involved any street racing. Just a bunch of kids racing and showing off their car proformance.

When the news air, some magic they did with editing the show becomes how dangerous street racing is and a lot of people bets thousand of dollar and fights broke out every weekends.

What can we do about that? Nothing. So I just stopped believing in news media. :)

it is biased because it airs video propaganda from extremist muslims who want to meet 40 virgins so they think strapping 100# of TNT to their ass and blowing their rectum to a million pieces while taking as many INNOCENT people with them will hasten the process. Now you can bitch about Freedom of this and freedom of that but to no one who thinks they should be on E* answered my ? . So here it is again.

"Did we show Stalin, Hitler and Hirohito info in theaters in WWII?? I think not. just because we live in a PC (make me puke) world does not mean we should bring the enemy into our houses to desensitize us to their cause"

Now why the touchy feely .edu group think the nutjobs in the caves in the middle of a freaking dessert "have feeling and rights just like we do" and should have their view heard might be the PC thing to do. I say BS.
What in the hell is this country coming to? why must always make 99.9% of the people kiss the ass of .1% till Chapstick does not even help?

rant off

I hate to not give you an easy out on this one but, yes I have watched this channel many times. I have traveled and stayed extensively in Europe and the Middle East so I think I have a fair idea of what I'm talking about. As for Bias, there is always a certain amount of it built into any media. It is our job as readers and viewers to separate fact from fiction and make informed decisions. After watching homicide bombings, beheadings, and people celebrating the death of Americans and Westerners, with no reciprocal positive coverage, on Al Jazeera's 6:00 PM news cycle, you cannot convince me they do not have an agenda against us. If you feel differently, I challenge you to travel to the Middle East and loudly proclaim your American heritage and see how you fare; Good Luck! ;) :flag:

the answer is no. happy? lol
i dont see how any of those are related to aljazeera, i saw a show about alqaida on a news channel not to long ago i think it was cnn but not sure, it was a women reporter that went with alqaida to there camp and she did interviews with them and talked about how they are gaining control over Afghanistan again, how is that any different than what aljazeera does? answer that please.

lol im american and i have lived in saudi arabia and i was there this summer, i have many friends there arabs and americans, nobody has ever treated me badly, actually one of my friends got out of some trouble with the law just because he was American. also one of my saudi friends that studied in america went to egypt last summer and told people there that his name was will and told every one he was american, he ended up getting in for free to every were he went, even to places that he usually wouldn't have been able to get into because they only allow couples in. so dont just assume things please, maybi you had some bad experiences, maybe your just paranoid i dont know, but i know one thing for sure and that is that you are wrong.

back to aljazeera
whats wrong with them showing people celebrating the death of Americans its not like they are organizing the event, the celebration is gonna happen with or without aljazeera there, just like a guy parade or anything like that if your intrested watch it if your not switch the channel.

i think the reason that some Americans are afraid of aljazeera might be becouse they are afraid of reality, we are so use to watching watered down stories of the truth that we are afraid of what is really happening.

an example of what aljazeera is great at and nobody else does as good is something that happened when i was in saudi, as soon as alzaqawi was killed they rushed to his brothers house and interviewed him live on tv, as they were doing the interview the police showed up and arrested alzarqawis brother and took aljazeeras cameras, no other news channel or news paper reported the arrest, if we didnt have aljazeera no one would even had known what happened to the man.

Geez....get a grip.....don't you think that DISH has a done a little homework...or do you think they are going into this blindly? Give them SOME credit. IF they add it here in the US, to your service....if you don't like it, don't watch it.....period. Stop over analyzing things. You have HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ and CINEMAX that has ALOT more sex and violence than Al-Jazeera will ever show....and when you don't like those show...what do you do? You change it right? And what says you can't do the same with THIS channel?

And not to put PIT-LIKE comments here but since when did disagreeing with you make you un-American or unpatriotic??

If Dish is considering adding Al Jazeera to its’ international lineup then, no, they haven’t thought it out; enough said. As for challenging someone’s patriotism, please tell me in what post I did that. What I am calling into question is peoples’ complicity in not squarely face issues and offering only excuses for barbaric actions and stances. Political Correctness will only get you so far. At some point a problem must be confronted and dealt with; just ask Neville Chamberlain. I don’t agree with your position, but I respect your right to hold it. And you should thank the men and women, past and present, of our United States armed forces for that right! :smug :flag:

So you are say that Dish is going into adding this station half-assed without any prior thinking on whether they really are sponsoring terrorist...?? You are basing this knowledge on what? Gut feeling? A crystal ball? Spider-senses tingling? I would think that Dish has done a little homework because can you imagine if all of those fears that this station WAS sponsoring terrorist were true? The BAD publicity DISH would have to endure and the loss of customers? Let's give DISH a little benefit of the doubt.

And you should thank the men and women, past and present, of our United States armed forces for that right! :smug :flag:

THAT comment above insinuate that you DO question patriotism when it does not agree with yours. Hell, you don't know if I was in the military and came back wounded from Iraq....you don't know IF I had served during Viet Nam...or WWII.
Blind comments like that makes you look like you are generalizing and makes any good points you do make seem questionable.

Look, what I am just saying....if you don't want to watch..do the same thing you do with all the late night junk they put on other channels. I don't see anyone moaning and bitching about all the pseudo-porno they put on Cinemax...where any kid under the age of 18 can just turn to the channel and see alot more damaging stuff than REAL NEWS that is happening.

We are going to get really off topic if we start discussing this strange habit we have in America of accepting violence but being prudish about nudity. We openly broadcast murder and mayhem but are shocked by the sight of a breast. Janet Jackson's nipple gets weeks of outraged coverage while genocide is back page news. I don't see where that plays a factor in AJ's anti-west slant though.

It Plays in the fact that like all those nudity based shows...all ya gotta do is change the channel....THAT is power that we take WAY TOO MUCH for granted.

No one is defending barbaric actions. We are pointing out the difference between participating in those actions and reporting on them. There is nothing patriotic about pretending no one celebrates when American die.

Your suggestion that Hitler would have just gone away if only Neville Chamberlain had insisted that no news outlets report on what was happening is absurd. Ignorance does not make you stronger.

That's exactly what the Bush administration thinks. No casket pictures, no freedom of the press in Iraq and years of deceiving and lying to the domestic press (and people). There is nothing patriotic about this unjust war in Iraq. Keep in mind none of us argue against the war in Afghanistan (except those of us who think the 140,000 troops in Iraq should have been sent to Afghanistan instead). We love this country and felt as much pain as anyone when we were attacked. But that has never had anything to do with Iraq or Al Jazeera. If you can't sort out these complex dilemmas then maybe you should keep your thoughts to yourself. Also your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore.
