Will EchoStar Carry Al-Jazeera HD?

Please, don't put AJ on in HD we are losing enough bandwidth as it is, wtf! Maybe in SD but not in HD!

Second of all, I thought Joe McCarthy died a while back.
Its name dropped earlier in the thread, but have you seen the award winning documentary, Control Room, that, ya know, actually factually reports on what Al Jazeera does and doesn't do?
In a country where half think Saddam was behind 9/11, Neo-Con propaganda could certainly use a counter valent. Nowhere is that more evident than this message board where implying that ANY voice from the Muslim world, let alone their most professional, prolific television news service, is by its very nature distributing terrorist propaganda. Perhaps they shouldn't allow muslims to have mics and cameras at all.
I admit to not having viewed the documentary so I can't speak to its contents. I can say that the views expressed in any given documentary are not always to be taken as fact but as a message spun to express the views of the film maker. I do not know if this is the case with Control Room.
The network first gained wide attention by broadcasting tapes of Osama bin Laden and Sulaiman Abu Ghaith as they celebrated and defended the attacks of Septmber 11th. They have further assisted with the spread of similar messages by being the organization chosen to receive footage of scripted hostage pleas and in spreading the messages of opposition leaders who supported attacks on Iraqi counsel members and on Coalition forces. They also continue to be the vehicle of choice for al-Qaeda to spread their propaganda.
Further, the ISP used for their Arabic website was convicted of receiving funding connected to Hamas.
I'm not sure how you attribute all of this to my saying that the Muslim community should have no voice. What I question is if AJ is truly the voice of the Muslim people or more the voice of extremists. I am not excusing media bias in our own country but I don't see where piping in this dangerous message is contributing anything positive to the situation.

your image of al-j is totally and absalutly wrong, they are a news channel that also has debate programs and documentarys, like what discovery has, for example some of the shows playing today are:
knowledge around the world
Columbus and discovering ......... in Cuba.
balboa's museum
a show about submarines
a debate about religion channels
water for city's
history competes with theater
then theres the usual todays news, the weather, sports news, and so on
thats not all they play but that should give you a good idea of the channel.
like someone already pointed out earlier the reason why the terrorists send there tapes to al-j is because there are only 2 news channels in Arabic the second is al-arabia which is fairly new not to mention its owned by saudi so not alot of people trust there news.
fyi there are more al-j channels, there are 2 sport channels and a children channel and maybe some more that im forgetting, the English channel is a brand new channel and nobody can tell you how it will be, maybe it will suck and maybe its gonna be good but who is to tell one thing i know is that there shows are always top notch.
last thing i wanna ad is i want as much HD channels as i can get al-j HD is one more and its not taking anything away, i know i would rather watch it than poker in HD now thats pointless lol

sorry but your mistaken and unlike you i can prove my point, alarabia and other channels alwayes play it after aljazeera does only difference is that aljazeera airs it first.
let me ask you something, how do you know that they are sending vitriolic messages of death, violence and hatred if no one else will run there videos, do you have al-jazeera? if so do you speak Arabic?

I am not an attorney but I seriously doubt they can even carry the channel. They can't by US Federal Law send any money to anyone or company that supports terriorism. I am not stating for a fact that Al-Jazeera supports terrorism; however since they play the tapes the terriost send to them, I have serious doubts that they do not support terriorism. If they do carry the channel I will have them investigated by Homeland Security and end my contract even if it means less HD and $13.00 plus dollars a month, for over a year.

How exactly are you going to "have them investigated by Homeland Security"? What stunning revalation do you have about this network that Homeland Security is unaware of? And how were you able to uncover terror threats that Homeland security completely missed?
You're a little touchy aren't you. I don't normally enter into this type of debate because people such as you, as a rule, are "close-minded" and do not budge from a position, even when it flies in the face of logic. But I will say this: I have traveled this world greatly, spending considerable time in Europe and the Middle East which you seem to profess to know so much about, and these people hate us; they never miss an opportunity to flaunt that hatred in the media. Having watched Al Jazeera many times from a “local perspective,” I say with great insight that Al Jazeera is extremely biased against the West and rush to celebrate any situation which serves to inflame that hatred. Oh, one more thing. Are you saying that when a terrorist organization sends a tape to a Middle Eastern News outlet they are holding hands, singing Cum-Bi-Yah and calling for world peace? It sure sounds and looks like messages of violence and hatred! I think any two reasonable people could agree on that. Remember, the operative word is reasonable.

The last time I checked, neither Fox, nor any other US News channel (with maybe the exception of CNN) has chosen to show the beheadings of innocent Americans, the killing of US soldiers, and the Homicide bombings of buses filled with women and children. However I have an "open Mind." If you can come up with an example I'll be happy to concede your point. Be sure to include dates, times and channels.

if almanar was going to be launched in america i would understand why people would be upset (its a channel owned by hizballah) although i would support it since we live in a free country and not N.Korea.

Certainly they have no shown those sorts of deaths. But that is not a pro or anti US thing. It is an anti violence thing. They don't show the killings of Arabs either, while Al Jazeria does.
Fox DOES show statements from bin Laden and others though.
