That is more like a lease down payment.
Dish itself does not sell receivers, if you buy one it has to be through a retailer.
ill bet u if u call them back and ck u will find out yes u own the 721, which will no lonmget work soon.. u are leasing the 722 or 722sYou know, I had a 721 fail on me soon after the tivo judgement. I had DHPP. When I called, they told me I had to get a different receiver and agreed to waive the dvr fee for 6 months. I just upgraded to HD and got 2 722's for free through a politely worded email to ceo@echostar.com.
When he was finishing my order, he told me that they would be taking one of the 522's (I had 2) with them. He told me that I OWNED the other one, because it replaced a 721 that I owned. Sure enough, the installer left it and told me it was mine.
This happen to anyone else? I really like the HD DVR's. Although I wish I had gotten the (K) series. I get all my HD locals via OTA. That would have been a slick box to have.
and jim dish will sell you a reciver if asked but there extremly hi priced..For $100 I seriously doubt that you really "own" the box.

Yikes, that makes me very happy that I never agreed to the swap out.Well, that is not what other members of this board was telling me when I complained and complained about it months ago when they sent me a letter about it. People on this board told me it was just due to them not going to support the 721 anymore but I knew better than to believe that. I still have the 721 and they forced me into getting another receiver, a 522, that has to be replaced TWICE!!! They gave me a heck of a time replacing it too, saying they couldnt find anything wrong with the first one they got when I tried to replace the second one they sent. The third one works just fine but now they owe me for several months of no service and now I have to fight with them over that. They almost lost me as a customer over this whole mess. Now I have a useless 721 and a leased 522 that they want back if I cancel service.
So you mean to tell me that the 721 still works? If that is the case then I want them to activate my 721 again.
Curses! You have not defined "still works".
Channels are being moved to the new smart card system on a daily basis, and the 721 software will not be updated to use the new smart cards.
