Guys,

I just signed up for whole home DVR installation. Install date is 9/18. DTV said my receivers, dish, and swm are compatible. Anything else I need to have setup before the installer arrives? Any and all help is appreciated.

Just talking from my experience, with Whole Home DVR, Make sure that everything is work correctly. Also you need to make sure that things that worked on your computer is still working correctly......after the installers left I went to use something on my computer, and it didn't work correctly. Other wise enjoy. The reason I say that is you need internet hook up it make this work correctly.

You don't need internet for whole home, you need it for cinema plus to work.

You didn't say what your configuration is going to be. But, as w6pea noted, make sure your tech walks you through recording and playback on all your high def receiver/recorders. My installation looked good until we got to that point and I could not see the bedroom recorder on my front room list (and vice versa). The tech was new to Whole Home Dvr and needed to contact his technical support for help. But, do make sure it all works before he leaves.

Then, if they are installing the cinema connection kit (which I think is still free on all new installs) make sure it works OK too before he leaves. I'm not sure what w6pea's problem was with his internet, but their installation should have no impact on your connection.

Do enjoy!! Oh... and Welcome!!

Make sure you have an open port on your router (or a connected Ethernet switch).

After they hooked up internet connection kit all of my usb ports quit working, I had two 4 port usb connectors, and the 4 ports on my tower quit. I really didn't notice it until almost a month after they were here, The second time because the first time they didn't hook up the cinema connection kit. I had to have them come back to do that. Anyway I went to plug in my flash drive to one of the ports on the tower, and it didn't work. Then I did some more looking around and they had unplugged one of the plugs and a usb cable from the back of the tower when they hooked it up. :coffee

w6pea,
Yep, if they go around and disconnect some of your cables that will really screw things up. I thought you were having some problems with your internet connection. Glad you figured it out and got it fixed.

kmcalls1,
Are you getting the cinema connection kit installed too? And did they mention whether they are going to install a wired or wireless connection kit? Just so you know, an internet connection is not required for whole home DVR. I thought I should mention that before we get you too concerned about having an internet connection.
Bob

Thanks guys for the pointers. I will need a wireless hookup to my router for Cinema plus. Anything special there??? Install is from noon to 4 PM on Sunday the 18th so I still have time to prepare.

Just got Whole Home DVR installed yesterday. So far the HR24 and the new H25 are working great! Had an issue with the HR24 losing local channels after software update, but that was fixed by going to Directv website and resending authorization! The only bad thing is all of the extra little boxes connected to the HR24!! LOL
