Pete Rose is the test case for baseball. Just as with Shoeless Joe, he'll always be remembered for his off-the-field activities. I met Rose about 3 years ago at a car dealership. When he signed a ball for me, he said: "Keep the faith" He was definitely a tortured soul.

Yes as typical of the REAL HOF voting, the only way Rose will get votes is if he is a Write In vote :

Here's one for :
Pete Rose

For what he did ON the field, after all, thats what they are suppose to vote on, what you did during your PLAYING DAYS.

The voters were afraid to place votes for him all these years., thats a shame.

There is a seperate section for Managers, Broadcasters, GM's ect.
If not there should be.

If you are going to consider Pete Rose only as a player, then yes , he belongs in the HOF. My problem is with his betting on baseball while he was managing. The integrity of the game has to be protected. I'm not sure I can seperate his playing career from his managing career. If he had not made bets while he was managing this would have been a no-brainer, but he did, and should have known better. Just an opinion guys, try not to jump to far down my throat. (Throat cancer survivor.)

Ripken and Gwynn are no-brainers. Anyone who fails to vote for both shouldn't be voting.

I feel McGwire is equally deserving of election to the Hall, but may not make it due to the morons who won't vote for him because they think they know everything about everything.

And Gossage isn't in already?!? Wtf? Get that man in the Hall. Now.

The rest of those guys were good/great players, but not Hall of Famers in my opinion.

I agree with you in many ways...but Ty Cobb was a KNOWN racist pig WHILE he played...didn't STOP HIM from getting voted in. IF anything, being a racist jerk is alot worse than betting on baseball. Like someone stated, IF you want to punish him for his gambling....other than he ALREADY DID TIME IN JAIL....then NEVER let him be part of baseball again...as manager, coach or broadcaster.....but if ANYONE deserve FOR HIS PLAY....and even MORE than Barry Bonds to me.....is Pete Rose.

my problem with the HOF is this.........look at the people who get in canton! lawrence taylor comes to mind. a great player but off the field, his problems were well documented. if he can get into the pro football hall of fame, rose should get into cooperstown. his stats speak for themselves. yes, betting on baseball was wrong. but keeping a well deserved player (shoeless joe too) out of the HOF is terrible!

Rose didn't do time for baseball, it was for not paying his taxes, another stupid thing, no one is debating that.

As for Pete managing , he was not one long enough to have a good guage as to how good he would be.
I would ONLY consider him for the hall as a player, beside seeing there are branches of the hall for managers and announcers, you would think that he would have been in as a player by now.

It's a shame Baseball is so bull headed.

I know he did it for Tax Evasion....but on TOP of the gambling embarassment...I think compared to some of the other crap OTHER players have done...he has suffered enough IMO....he deserves the HOF.

One person that I think deserves to be in the Hall of Fame that nobody has said yet is Dave Concepcion. He invinted the throw to first base on a bounce off the turf. He was outstanding defensively and was overshadowed not only by Ozzie Smith but his own teammates because of the Big Red Machine. I think this is his last year of eligibility to be voted in by the writers, then it goes to the HOF commity which is even harder to get in.

They have indicated that writein votyes for Rose will not even be counted. I cannot verify this but I would guess that they happen every year.

maybe, things will change after bud selig leaves office. sorry, he has bee one of the worst baseball commish's in my lifetime!!!

You really cannot blame him....the owners wanted a lame duck commish. They wanted someone to help them break the union...and in the end....it never happened. We will NEVER...and I can honestly use THAT word here...NEVER have a commissioner that will put baseball before owners or players....not in MY lifetime....the day of Mountain Landis, Bowie Kuhn and Bartlett-Giamatti are LONG gone.....

Don't forget about former KY governor A.B. "Happy" Chandler who was commish during the Jackie Robinson introduction.

I agree 100 %
I think the same about Alan Trammell not getting inbecause he was over shadowed by Cal Ripken most years.

costas as baseball commish? i don't think it could be any worse than the olympics guy (peter uberroth, sp?). i'm just not a big selig fan.

Alan is not out of the picture yet. The real crime is that Lou Whitaker is no longer elidgible for the HOF. These two both belong in the HOF if only for being the longest playing tandem in baseball history. Whitaker's numbers exceed some of the second basemen already in the Hall.

Yeah he should be in there too.
