Where are my Satellite Guy's gamers at?

Just finished Spec Ops: The Line. It definitely took a different approach than most shooters out there. The story actually mattered to the game instead of just being a reason to shoot the next room full of bad guys. Plus they never try to make you feel like the hero after killing hundreds of people. It was a fairly short game, I finished it in 2 days, but the cover based shooting was solid and fair for the most part.

If you have PS Plus you got this one for free like I did so there really is no reason to miss it. Spec Ops is a game most people, myself included, overlooked. That really is a shame because the developers actually tried something new and should have been rewarded for it. If it hadn't been one of the free PS Plus games there is a good chance I never would have played it.

Yeah, another game I've started and never finished, think I missed it on PSN+ and have it on PC.

If is one of the many games that makes me want an Nvidia Shield handheld.

Randomly played some EQ2 tonight after reading/watching EQ Next stuff all weekend.

Even if you don't have PS+ the game is CONSTANTLY put on sale. I've seen it as cheap as $5 at times. Add it to your Steam Wishlist and eventually you'll get it around that, although quite honestly it is worth a LOT more than that IMO.

For anyone that cares *cue crickets* my time has been split mainly on my PC between DMC: Devil May Cry and Saint's Row The Third.

There's not too much to say about DMC. If you've played any action games like previous Devil games, Ninja Gaiden, or God of War you've played this as well. In this game you play as Dante, the same protagonist from other games but this time it's when he's in his early 20's. This does lead to a few cringe worthy moments when they try to make him act young with a cocky attitude but overall it works.

The action is fast and furious and fun, although there are a few rather annoying components that nearly all games of the genre seem to suffer from. For one, there are platforming sections, which for some reason, unless your protagonist is a fat Italian plumber, doesn't flow well. I've probably lost close to an entire energy bar of life from times I've fallen off various platforms simply because I couldn't line things up properly. Also, the game gives you dozens upon dozens of combos which are spread across different weapons, but odds are you'll only remember about 4 combos and just use those all the time.

Finally, the plot is rather wonky in that it feels like they just ripped things off from other properties. The plot is a weird mix of The Matrix with dual worlds and V with the oppressive government. Perhaps the designers were big fans of Hugo Weaving. Finally, ironically the game seems to have ripped off random elements of God of War. You get a massive fist weapon that's basically a rip off of The Gauntlet of Zeus, and because Dante's dad is constantly referenced, who is named Sparda, people constantly call Dante "Son of Sparda."... really? Oh, and some enemies have some frankly overpowering attacks. No character in the first half of the game should be allowed to have an attack that can take off nearly 1/3rd of my life bar when extra energy is very scarce and hard to find.

Overall though none of these things are preventing me from wanting to keep going in the game, and I have to say that Capcom did a FANTASTIC job putting this on the PC. This does not feel like a half-assed port at all, and feels like it was built specifically for PC gamers in mind. That may explain why, amazingly, reviewers have declared the PC version to be the best. Worth a look if you have a good PC or Xbox 360. Yes, it is also available for PS3, but it is the worst version in terms of frame rate.

Speaking of bad ports, I tried out Saint's Row 2, which I picked up via the latest Humble Bundle. Saint's Row is basically GTA on crack. Everything is much more over the top, realism is thrown out the window, and it really is about building a criminal empire and being an a**hole, as opposed to all the GTA games following Vice City. I played SR 2 years ago for a little while and enjoyed it but eventually I just zoned out. I picked it up again on this sale and tried it out on my PC, and unfortunately as good as DMC was on PC, this game is as BAD. It is a HORRIBLE PC port. CLEARLY this was made for console gamers first and PC gamers were an afterthought. My biggest complaint is with the controls. I tried to use my Xbox 360 wired controller (which, BTW is a NECESSITY if you want to do serious PC gaming) but the game acted like it didn't know how to play with the controller. Get this crazy scenario: Unlike most driving games, by default the acceleration and reverse are bound to X and A respectively, as opposed to R trigger and L trigger. R trigger is what you use to shoot while on foot and while driving. If you try and bind RT to acceleration though, the game will make RT acceleration AND shooting while driving! It also doesn't help that the game never gives you button context hints for the gamepad, and instead will tell you what to press on the mouse/keyboard. This along with rather sub par graphics and random glitches and bugs make this harder to recommend on PC than on consoles, which is a shame because many have said that SR2 is better than 3.

Saint's Row the Third (I hate calling it that because honestly whenever I think of the title this theme song plays in my head) is basically SR2 but even MORE over the top. One thing that I DO like is that you get to customize your character, which is a nice change from the GTA series where you basically are stuck with whatever the protagonist is scripted to do. I think why I liked GTA: Vice City so much is because Ray Liotta/Henry Hill as Tommy Vercetti was so awesome in that role, unlike CJ and Niko. I was able to create a character to my liking, which in this case was a blonde haired woman with a heavy Russian accent and proportions similar to Khloe Kardashian (sorry but I did want a body type that would at least be imposing.) The game is fun for balls to the wall action and silliness, but from a story standpoint that is also a bit of a detriment. Unlike earlier SR games and GTA games, where you build up from nothing to become all powerful, in this game you start off powerful as the head of the Third Street Saints, where you are driven out of your home city and displaced in another one, but within about 2 hours you've already taken over a large penthouse on a high rise where you can actually get jet fighters delivered to it. Also, if you get all the game's DLC (which you can for about $5 on the Humble Bundle) you are given a bunch of advanced weapons at your first save house. Hell you even get 2 different cars with turrets on them. Overall though, this does seem to be part of the whole theme of SR, which is to just let the gamer rip loose and have fun. I definitely was smiling in ways I haven't done since I tore sh*t up in GTA:VC and Prototype. Seriously folks, if you have a competent PC it's worth picking up (along with a bunch of other games) for $5 at the link posted above.

I also picked up a copy of Dishonored on PC for about $10 that I'll likely get into after these games, and hopefully Deadpool will arrive soon in Gamefly so I can go through that and get my queue ready for GTA V. I do expect to get a lot more gaming done in the near future as in September I'll be on my own for 3 weeks when my wife takes the kids with her to China. I fully expect my life to revert back to my 2004-2008 routine of "Sleep, Eat, Work, Game."

I think you will like Dishonored but I also thought you would like The Last of Us much more than you did so we'll see. The beginning of the game was a little frustrating but as you start to unlock more powers you start to feel like a total badass. I bought the Saints Row and Dead Island humble bundle too. I planned on skipping SR 2 and mainly bought the bundle for SR 3 and Dead Island GOTY. I would like to play SR 3 before SR 4 comes out but I don't think it's going to happen.

I really want to finish my PS3 library before the PS4 comes out and I still have some pretty big holes left. I'd say I'm about half way through Arkham City and I still haven't played inFamous 2, Uncharted 2 or 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, LittleBigPlanet 2, and all 3 Resistance games even though I have owned all of these games for months. Plus there are still new games coming out that I want to play. My guess is that LBP 2 and the Resistance series won't make the cut and I'll probably never play them.

I'm sure I will still use my PC quite a bit this summer but the focus has started to shift to my PS3 so I can sell it after I finish GTA V. I figure that I will have plenty of time to catch up on my PC backlog after the PS4 launch. Each new console seems to have a pretty slow release schedule once the launch games are all out so my PC will fill those gaps. There also seems to be a lack of quality games at the beginning of new console generations.

No real point on jumping on SR4 when it comes out. May as well wait until some DLC comes out and then it all goes on sale, not to mention we're only about 45 days out from GTA V. Don't want to get an Open World Overload of gaming.

Edit: I actually played Dishonored for a little bit recently on GF but I just didn't have time to get into it. It seemed intriguing, and I do like that you can either be stealthy or just kick some ass, although I'm not thrilled that you get a better ending by being non-violent. Odds are I'll just play the game like normal and then once I get the inevitable "not good" ending I'll just look at the other one on Youtube, although some have mentioned that the game is so short that you may as well play it twice..

True, I won't be paying full price for SR4. It will either be a PC sale or a Gamefly rental. I planning on starting Sleeping Dogs on PC sometime in the near future too so there will be even more of an Open World Overload for me. I have to think SR 4's sales would be much better if they would have gotten farther away from GTA 5's release date. I think Rockstar through a lot of people off when they delayed GTA from Spring to Fall.

Well, I think it's safe to say that SR4 will have a DRASTIC price cut around the time that GTA V comes out..

I'm all for that. If I can get SR 4 on PC for $25-$30 a month after it releases when GTA V comes out I'll jump all over that. That might even be enough for me to wait until GTA V is available on PC or the demand goes down enough on Gamefly for me to rent. Right now I am planning on a day one purchase of GTA V on PS3 which is rare for me since building my PC.

Can anyone offer their impressions of Hitman Absolution? It's the free game (starting today) for Plus members and I'm trying really hard to tear myself away from Borderlands 2, which I've been playing virtually non-stop for the last 6 weeks. Lately when I sit down to start my gaming session, I try to tell myself I'll reach in to my backlog for something new, only to say "Nah, I really just want to play Borderlands 2." lol

I did, however, manage to make a little progress in LEGO Batman 2 last night. Fun little game and the humor (with voice actors for the first time in a LEGO game) is well done. But when I got the ACE Chemical Plant and saw all the vats of lethal green chemicals, all I could think of was "I need to use corrosive weapons against armored enemies and loaders."

Deus Ex, which I finished two months ago, was one of my favorite games, so I'm thinking Hitman A. would be up my alley.

I am a fellow Borderlands lover. I have played through it and most of the DLC on PS3 with Axton and now I am playing through again plus finishing all the DLC this time on PC with Salvador. I have also been playing a little Borderlands 1 GOTY on PC too. I never actually made it all the way through the original on PS3.

As for your actual question... I have never played a Hitman game before. I don't know if it was just the way they were marketed but those games never appealed to me even though they got decent review scores. Thanks for the PS+ heads up though. Now that it is free I might actually give it a chance. It isn't at the top of my priority list though.

Hitman and Dues Ex are somewhat similar, but I think a big difference is that DEX allows stealth killing as an OPTION, whereas in Hitman it's more of a REQUIREMENT. So if you're all about stealth then it's probably worth checking out but if you AREN'T into stealth then it may be worth sticking around Pandora for a while longer..

Thanks for the input. I actually hated stealth until I did two full no-alarms, no-kills playthroughs of Deus Ex and its DLC. Downloading Hitman now. :D

I got DEX and the DLC for like $5 at the last Steam sale. It, like Dishonored, was a game that I tried for a little bit but never had time to really get into. I got no problem with stealth gameplay, but I prefer it more as an OPTION, in games such as the Metal Gear Solid games Batman: Arkham City. I don't like being severely punished for not doing the stealth properly.

I feel the same way. I like stealth gameplay but nothing pisses me off more than games that require it without good enough AI to make it fair. It is completely frustrating to think you are doing it right only to be spotted unfairly. That was why I really enjoyed Dishonored. I felt like the stealth was solid and fair especially compared to The Last of Us. I loved that game but it was totally frustrating to have every enemy on the map know exactly where you are as soon as you are spotted. In Dishonored only the enemy who saw you knows where you are. Yes he will try to yell for help but you can usually kill him before he gets a chance when you are spotted. Even if you aren't successful in that and he does get the other enemies attention you are still a powerful killing machine capable of taking out 4 or 5 enemies pretty easily. I tried to play as stealthily as possible but I never felt punished for making a mistake and having to fight. When I was spotted it was actually my fault too, not just inconsistent AI. It usually happened because I walked into a room without carefully checking for enemies first or an enemy I didn't notice was posted on a balcony.

I do really like some games in the genre though. The Splinter Cell series was one of my favorites on the original Xbox. The lighting and graphics were incredible for the time. I tried Splinter Cell Double Agent on the 360 and could never really get into it and I never even tried Conviction. I am looking forward to the reviews for Splinter Cell Blacklist though. It may finally be time to get back into the series.

inFamous Second Son is the next gen game I am most looking forward to right now even though I still haven't played inFamous 2. Watch Dogs, Killzone, Titan Fall etc... and most of the other games people are really hyped for haven't piqued my interest so far. I would also put Dead Rising above all of those other games if I were getting a Xbox One at launch. For whatever reason inFamous is the game that is making me excited for the next generation to start.

Because of this I am about half way through replaying inFamous 1 as a refresher. I don't know if inFamous 2 will be next on my list for sure but I'm definitely going to play it before the PS4 launch. My PC isn't getting a lot of use right now. I have plenty to play on it but I'm currently trying to finish up my PS3 library first.

Something tells me that Second Son is going to be it's own story. Don't feel teh need to replay the PS3 games just for a refresher. Not to be a spoiler, but let's just say that inFamous 2 pretty much wraps up the story, regardless of whether you're "good" or "bad."
