When will Dish get better at lettting us reecord a whole football game

If the game falls in the standard PTAT block, whether it begins before or ends after, it will record the scheduled time. In this case, til 1015.

I didn't even think of the TV timeouts but yes. The game should be the priority, not the tv deals. Screw it, one day we will see NFL jerseys looking like NASCARS cars. Sponsors all over the place. College has already started long ago with the Tostitos bowl.

So, last night's game went into overtime. I am really glad I set up a recording for the news afterwards or else I would have missed that crazy OT. I really do wish that Dish would do something about this. With so many games happening during prime time, I have to set up so many news recordings and when the PTAT recording stops during the 4th quarter, I have to go and find which news recording corresponds to the game I'm watching.

Last Sunday, even though I set up a separate timer for the Broncos game and had that timer set to record 60 extra minutes, it didn't do it. I guess because it's already a part of PTAT.

The Hopper already knows which programs are sporting events. I know that because when I set up a timer for a Sunday afternoon game, it automatically adds 60 mins. of record time at the end. Why can't the Hopper be smart enough to know that there is a sporting event during Prime Time, add an extra 60 mins.? Boom. Done.

Football (real football) already does that. Well, their jerseys have (1) sponsor but the sidelines are ringed with electronic banners (ads) that change throughout the game. For those that don't watch football, there are no commercial breaks except at the half.

I set a timer for last week's Thursday night game after you posted about it and it did "fail" to record the entire game. It stopped just like everyone said it would.

To some degree, the PTAT function is just "dumb" (or maybe strict is the better term). It records from 8pm to 11pm - and that's it - no more - no extra padding. Maybe a smarter function in PTAT is on their to-do list ?

Just curious, do you have an OTA adapter for your Hopper ? That's one way to get the whole thing recorded, well, at least have the option for padded time.

Or 7-10 on the West Coast.

Same issues when Prime Time programming follows sports event like on CBS Sunday. Seldom does a golf match or football game end on time. The Prime Time shows are displayed delayed by the game overrun. The last time slot (10-11 eastern) doesn't get a time extension because it isn't sports events.

The answer is a manual timer for the news show in the 11-12 time slot. You get the last half of the 10-11 show.

Ou could turn PTAT off on football nights, and manually setup the timers. It will still allow you to record on up to the 4 channels with one tuner, and you will still have Autohop enabled.

The answer is a ViP receiver that doesn't have PTAT and will automatically set the 60-minute extension on sports timers. :)

Lol, just to counter that. Or a hopper with PTAT disabled, and manually scheduling the recordings one at a time(like a VIP), but with 3 tuners...

7-10 on Mountain Time, 8-11 on Pacific Time. So, not the West Coast, but some of the western region... ;)
That is not necessarily true about Pacific time. Half the year Az is on Pacific Time and we still go 7-10 year round. I think we are in mountain time right now. We are one of the few states that doesn't celebrate DST.

This! See, you do have options.

Pesky Dish giving some choice....
So, my "Options" are...

  • Turn off PTAT and set up a regular timer, possibly missing everything else that it would normally record (and possibly getting shot by my wife when I miss her show because of football).
  • Record the news and what not hoping to catch the rest of the game.
You're right! Sweet options! o_O

What would happen if DISH drops Viacom?

Netflix goes to black on hopper.
