I am very interested in FTA. I work for a CATV company and have worked on our 32' Head end Dish. So I wouldn't say I am totally ignorant about satellite. My Question is though. What would I need to do a multi room (multi HD receivers) C & KU band's to get all available FTA channels? What Dish would I need? What LNB/'s, motor to rotate the dish? What receivers can tune HD & SD C & Ku channels?

I am a bit confused on the receivers most of them I look at do not say KU band or C band. The only receiver that has that in its description is the FORTEC STAR but I don't think that's HD. I have been reading a lot but need some opinions and help. Oh PVR would be nice.

I live in central Wisconsin in case that helps with the type of dish and motor I would need.

Thanks in advance.

lot of questions

While this won't address all your questions, let me point you to my lengthy answer to Bulbman in his thread.
That should give you some foundation.

Mike16 asked about hi-def in this thread, and the same answer applies.

As for the receivers and the two bands, it's like this...
The LNB converts the Ku band or C band signal down to the range of 950 to 2100mhz (don't quote me, that's from memory)
So, all the receivers really need to do is tune that IF frequency range.
Then, by knowing the local oscillator frequency (LO) used to downconvert, they can calculate and display your actual received frequency.
