Rumor? Eastern arc is being retired

I just tried this on my HWS & it only allows 2 simultaneous recording streams - unfortunately, the RECORD light no longer works on stream recordings (it previously did when this feature was introduced...)
That is correct. The Hopper with Sling can record 2 streams and the Hopper 3 can record 3 streams.

I'm in the situation of a clear, beautifully open sky to the Southeast. Southwest, not so much, not without locating the reflector and LNBf in the street. So, will all those events I have on my Hopper 3 and its EHD work without a satellite signal? Or will the Hopper 3 work in Streaming-Only mode and still allow access to my archives?

I can tell you what I did when I cancelled DISH after 25 years at the beginning of 2022. I had my hopper and joeys still hooked up and my external hard drive still plugged in and my ota antenna and my usb tuner still plugged in.

My satellite channels disappeared of course in the guide except free stuff and my ota channels kept on working and my guide information for them still worked. I was able to use them and timers still worked and my dvr ability still worked for them. Even the Auto skip feature worked on my ota channels the next day for ABC /NBC and CBS after 7 days and Fox like 3 days later - just like when I was still using sat locals. My external hard drive also worked and I was able to watch anything on the drive. My joeys also still worked in the bedroom and office.

Now I have since unhooked my old hopper and joeys since I use Sling Tv and TABLO now. So I don't know if it will still work if I plugged it back in today. Also there was no streaming channels to watch in 2022, so I can't tell you if that will still work or not. I would think it would if you keep your receiver hooked up to the satellite. All the streaming channels in the 90s are free anyway. Like Sling Tv has a Freeview section of similar channels that are free and you can record them if you want to add the cloud dvr for $5.00 if you record a lot and other wise you get basic 10 hours for free, if you don't.

how long did you have it hooked up and working as described before you unhooked it all?

Since we leased the Hopper 3 and "4K" Joey, Dish will want that equipment back if we cancel. But at this point, no one from Dish has contacted us about this relocation, so I guess we will kick the can down the road and deal with it…

What a pain. The whole reason I switched to EA was because my locals weren't available in HD on the western arc.

Hope someone here will keep us updated with at least some advance notice before EA finally gets shut down.

I'll need to bother you guys again to make sure I get the correct western LNB equipment for my 2-hopper setup, then change everything out before EA dies.

What makes you think they will not move your HD locals to WA?

I assume they would. I'm talking about 9 years ago though. I originally went with WA for my H3, but when I couldn't get the locals in HD and found out it was because of the arc, I switched everything over to EA instead, even though I was getting a stronger signal with WA anyway. And now, murphy's law, having to switch back to WA again.

Some interesting calls the past two days...

I have been out of the loop on things for the past few months due to issues at my real job, so I don't know if some games are being played on me or not, However I am being told that the Eastern Arc is not going anywhere.

I guess retailers are now contacting Dish asking about this and they are being told its not true as well.

With that said could it happen sometime in the future? I guess anything could happen. But in reality I am told a majority of Dish subscribers would have a hard time getting Western Arc so this would be a huge loss of customers for them, and in addition Dish does not have the manpower to go out and move people over.

So as I said unless they are playing some games then at this time I do not believe this is happening.

I know we had the head of third party operations at out main office in December saying just the opposite and we ARE actively migrating every EA dish to WA, so..... And of course, Dish has been fickle in the past

About that same time frame,
I wonder how many Dish subscribers are currently on the EA?
Being in West Texas we got good reception and little rain fade from 110/119/128, but they put our HD locals on 61.5, so I added a wing dish for 61.5 and it confused the thunder out of my Hopper. PTAT would never record ABC or NBC. So, dish finally just switched me to EA and things settled down, except for lower signal and more frequent LOS due to rain showers to the southeast.

Hm, that whole DPP system was designed to integrate a separate wing LNBF right into the Twin or Triple main LNBF. ViPs never had trouble, surprising hopper would.

I would have guessed there's significantly more subs on WA than EA, if only because WA was all they had during their main growth phases.
